They say the women of Kolkata are the most beautiful in India. I Think they may be right!
Hi all, (This you got before. I'm going to try to resend it because the Kolkata pictures are attached.)

Well, as I said in my last blog, flexibility is an asset. More worrying news out of Nepal and so I have decided on a new plan. Maybe I'm being a big chicken, but some of the area I had planned to travel through to get to northern India is known for its support of Maoist. While no tourist that I have heard of has been seriously hurt, they will stop and harass you and make you give them money...quite a lot at times. And, since I have sort of decided to come back and spend next winter here, I can do the Nepal trip maybe next fall.

So, it's off to India. It's too early, really, for the subcontinent (still hot and rainy), however, I'm going to fly into Calcutta (Kolkatta, nowadays) next Tuesday. I asked my travel agent (who is an utter gem...can't believe I found her) and she has assured me that Jet Airways, the airline I am booked on has never had an accident. I wouldn't know, since I've never heard of Jet Airways. Oh, well.

I was searching for the 'mother house' of Mother Teresa and got lost. This is typical of the side streets
Life's a risk! I guess I am just talking this way because of that Pukhet crash this week. Am a bit spooked.

As soon as I get to India I'm heading northeast. Up to Darjaleeng and Sikkim. They are both in mountainous areas and not so hot and they sound so exotic and interesting that I can't resist. By the time I spend time up there, the rest of India should be cooled down and I'll be on my Trek through the rest of the country.

Caveat....Spelling doesn't count in this blog. I don't have a spell check or a dictionary so you can all have a chuckle at some of the ways things get spelled. But, they should be at least understandable.

Will write more when I have more to write about. That may be a while Lakon (that's goodbye in Thai)

PS Can only put 50 pictures on this blog. That's not much on this long a trip so I'll have to be stingy with the pictures. Sorry.

All the young men here hold hands and hang on each other. Big cultural difference, but kind of nice

This is right on one of the biggest roads, Chowinghee. Zillions eat lunch every day on the streets between 1-2.
