Elaine and the coconut
Listed as one of the main hazards on ko tao, falling coconuts will give u quite a headache and probably a hospital visit at beast. A little to the right there Elaine! ..hehehehe Hi all!!
Well we've had a lovely relaxing week on ko tao!!! Settled nicely into our little hut, with the beach
across the path. The water here is crystal clear and tropical blue!!! Not much in the way of sea lice, crabs
and jelly fish either so it hasbeen a treat (not much the lover of all things slimey and squirmy and snippy
at my feet). We've been taking it slow and easy all week.. hard to even remember now how we have
passed the time!!!
The first adventurous thing we did was rent some bicycles, 100baht each, to do some exploring of the
island. its a bit iffy renting things sometimes in asia, so though we'd start with pushbikes!! The prices for
any damage are fairly exorbitant!!! We headed off but paul noticed a clicking on the pedals (similar to a
clicking on his bike back home meaning pedal bar might have been cracked) so decided to take it very easy
on the cycling. Due to all the hills ended up pushing bikes A LOT in the midday sun.. hot and sweaty work.
(Paul loves making me trek!!!) Pushed the bikes
Night out with the lads
Yes indeedy another "Caberet show" didnt stay too long tho. Thats my limit now up a little mountainside path to see the whale skeleton and
had a well deserved fanta in the shade. We then trekked some more down to the end of island and through
the bush, and climbed on some rocks to view the 3 island place - nyang kho something... 1km across the water
from ko tao. Lucky for me, it was mostly free wheeling back.
We were a bit paranoid there was gonna be hassle over bikes so we dropped them back early to get
rid of them after that! But thankfully, no probs there!!!That allowed us get a little more adventurous
at our next rental and get a moped!!! I brushed off my cobwebs, and showed Paul i'm a dab hand on
a moped!!! We had to give him some lessons on a quiet road, and for once, i was designated the trusted
driver on the main roads!!! We explored the other end of the island Ban chalok bay. Very nice down
there, and definitley gonna stay there a few days if we return to ko tao.
Evenings have been quiet enuff. But we did manage to squeeze in a
cabaret show (not as good as
the one in lamai, and paul has since anounced that 2 should be sufficient now for this trip!!! - think
he's frightened of the ladyboys winking at him etc!!!! Ya couldnt keep Gav away.. methinks he
loves them!!!! :P )
Found a nice beachside pub with a big screen for films in the evening, and snug deckchairs and hammocks
for Paul, so thats been sweet. Unfortunatley the evening weather has been a bit windy and drizzly the
last few days, so no sooner discovered twas useless to us!!!
Yesterday ran into some people we'd met on Ko phangnan, Frasier and Naomi from Inverness in Scotland.
They'd made it to Ko tao, and Naomi had sent Frasier off home hunting, so we nabbed them, and they
booked into Sairee Cottages last night!! So then there were six!!! We all had dinner out last night, and
then a feast of pancakes and beer outside the 7-11, keeping things on budget as usual!!! We gave the
lads the low down on Ko tao, and all our budget savvy discoveries!!!
Hayley and Gav headed off on
the catamaran this morning, and we're heading tomorrow up to bangkok,
So we'll see them again up there in New Siam 2 guesthouse in bangkok for some bevvies for their last
night tomorrow'm sure. We're planning on meeting Pauls cousin on Sat night there too, so we'll be
needing some detox days after that.
We're heading up to Chiang Mai after that, which we cant wait for. Supposed to be lovely, and we're
looking forward to the change, after 6 weeks island hopping!!! Pauls prob dying to get me walking
again!!! He's like a shepard herding me up mountains the whole time!!! We're planning a 3 day
(organised) trek up the hills to the tribes, and plenty of time to explore the city, and maybe do a
cooking course!! Should be fun!!! (maybe a massage if the budget allows too)
Hope ur all well anyway! The time is flying by here, and we are really enjoying ourselves. Hope the
autumns better than the summer was at home, and things are well for everyone at home!! If anyone
who hasnt had a postcard wants a postcard, email us your addresses please, cant seem
Whale skeleton
Sorry about the sweat patch, believe me ud sweating too to remember half of them!!!
