Population 1.6 mill
Northern Thailand
Weather....Fab

A City built within a moat, little streets that kris cross each other with guest house after guest house. Arrived to
Chang Mai at 6am.... met up with Karen, Kelly and Blair from New Zealand again. I love it here (it's like a mini Bangkok but way nicer...what am i talking about...sure it doesnt even compare ) and
Sundays they have a night market on for the Thai people...AMAZING!!!!!!! Def not one to miss, all top quality...I had decided I was hanging around another week just to go to the Sunday market again!
Had a few great nights out and the guest house where me and Kelly were staying (Sunny Salsa) is home away from home 4 USD a night between us...wuhuu!...also has free internet which is always a winner in my book!!!
The Friday night of the Ireland V ?? rugby game... cant remember exactly who they were playing but we lost...bumped into Eric (Waterford) and got chatting, now normally I would never talk to a man from Waterford but
I was desperate for conversation..lol!! (Only joking Eric) he was traveling with 3 girls from Cork...........obviously
salt of the earth being from Cork.................. 8 hours later
I found myself sitting on an efalant with a flute from Ballincollig and trekking through the jungles of Chang Mai!!!! Random as they come....don't you just love it!
I had decided I would come along with them....as usual forgetting that I
HATE HATE HAAATE Ascents..... so of course all us girls complained for the whole 3 days.
This is where our fascination with flutes occurred.... Edel & I bought our first T-Tree flute........I bought 3 and she bought one...that broke...then tried for week to rob my flutes!! Kind of had to be there to understand...hilarious!
There were 11 of us in all, the trek started with an efalant ride through the jungle and the trekking to waterfalls after waterfalls, it was beautiful and painful all at the same time....our first night we stayed at our accommodation...a wooden shed on stilts with 8 double mattresses on the ground and a mozzie net.... I was not happy... I mean the place could have been crawling with spiders.... andas it went........ it was........
We had our dinner and spoke about what our biggest fear was...
mine of course was spiders... no surprise there...then everyone else spoke about theres... weirdly enough Paula's was ice cubes?????
I went in to get a flash lamp from my bag and WHAT DO YOU THINK...was sitting there coooozie out on
MY bed...just my bed...no one elses....only the biggest hairiest mother ****** I had ever seen or eaten for that matter.....
SWEET MOTHER OF GOD I nearly lost the plot...so the guy came in and whacked it... (Soprano style) I didn’t exactly want him to kill it, just take it out...by what ever means....then I moved beds and what ever way I looked to my right...his brother was climbing the wall!!!! I just couldn’t win, then Paula said...all I need now is to go in and see 2 ice cubes sitting on my bed...I cracked up lol!!!
Needless to say hardly any of us got any sleep that night.... one because we were too frightened to close our eyes and two because Stephanie felt a
cockroach in her bed in the middle of the night and screamed the place awake! Lol!
Day 3 was
a killer…must have been 7 hrs of trekking…but worth it when we got to the last waterfalls……. We had some great laughs along the way and unannounced to any of us would travel on together though Laos and Vietnam.
The celebrations began that night back in Chang Mai….1 because we did the trek and survived to tell the tale..and 2. because it was my birthday….. so a good night was on the cards…… The girls from Ballincollig were just great, we spent the night in hysterics, best birthday weekend ever and met some unbelievable people.... its what's it's all about I think.
Because of my trek I missed the Sunday market and decided to head away on the Wednesday to
Chang Rai for a couple of days on my way to Laos.
