While Grayson visited with Paw-paw Kilon and I packed our remaining clothes and necessities into suitcases. The items that didn’t fit into suitcases were disposed of or donated. We were able to get it down to 4 suitcases (1 for me, 1 for Kilon, 1 small suitcase for Grayson, 1 for toys). We will live out of suitcases until our container is delivered…probably some time in September. The house closed on July 31st. There was a little drama the night before and the day of the closing, but it was minor and we survived! Tom Burnett was nice enough to book us a suite the last night (July 30th). We were in the house working late and basically had no belongings. THANKS TOM!!!! We enjoyed the nice fluffy bed and hot coffee! After the closing on the house we drove to Elkin to pickup Grayson. We had a nice dinner with my dad and said goodbye for now. We then drove to Fort Mill. We raided my mom’s house. She was nice enough to loan us her car so we could get a few more last minute items completed. Kilon had to get POA paperwork completed for the sale of the lake property and the office building. August 2nd - Tom Burnett offered to host a going away party for us. He took care of everything and all we had to do was show up. We enjoyed ourselves with the company of a few friends and some great food prepared by Tom and Neal. It was the first time we were able to take a deep breath and really soak in that we were actually moving. I got a little emotional toward the end of the night, but I managed to hold it in. Well….Christine jerked a couple of tears out! I had to run her off so I could try and recompose myself. There were rumblings from a few people that they would love to visit. Of course our home is open to any of our friends and family that would like to come down.August 3rd - Our last day in Charlotte. We spent the day hanging out with my mom and Stuart. It was a very relaxing, low key day filled with good conversation and food. Stuart prepared some hot wings and shrimp…. YUMMY! We sat out on the deck, watched hummingbirds, and chatted the day away. After dinner Grayson and I visited great paw-paw. Grayson decided to try and thumb wrestle with great paw-paw which was amusing to watch.August 4th - It’s D-day and I tried to squeeze more stuff into the suitcases. In fact….I decided to jump up and down on my suitcase. Stuart caught me in the act……It was a good laugh. We had a delicious breakfast and then we were off to the airport. We said our goodbyes to mom and Stuart. Of course tears were flowing at this point…it’s my mom! The feeling I had was overwhelming…..I’ve spent 38 years in the Charlotte area and now I’m actually moving away. WOW! There were so many thoughts, emotions, etc. I was an emotional wreck for the remainder of the day. Grayson asked on numerous occasions “mom…why are you crying”? The flight was on time and it was smooth sailing to Costa Rica. Oh yea - the suitcase thaNo problem with customs or getting our rental car. We arrived at Residencias Los Jardines and settled into our short term rental. We are in a larger unit this time and boy does the extra room make a difference. The grounds were just as beautiful as we remembered them being in March/April.
