This is the most beautiful part of the island...idyllic
This is the family holiday home location, it is off the West Coast of France from La Rochelle and very nice too. We stayed for almost two weeks and is very likely going to be the highlight of the whole year for all of us. (It is so far)
Lots of things to do and I think we tried most of them. Bike riding, wind-surfing, crab catching, berry collecting, fairs, cafes, restaurants, and of-course the beach sand and swimming. No donkey riding this time, nor muscle or oyster collecting.

Best foods? the salts flavoured with herbs, the mussels and the crabs. Also the rockmelon and peaches.

Pictures can say the rest.

We went for an early morning stroll along the beach and came across this collection of animals all getting some salt water exercise. Quite surreal.

here are many of these salt baths around Ile de Re and the island supplies around France. The rock salt and herb combinations could well become my secret ingredient.

Donkeys are used when collecting salt (and so wear little pants to protect their legs from salt rashes)

Rene told us how to get to the secret blackberry picking lane and we collected a whole basket full. I made a very delicious confiture with them.

Herve cooked and prepared a beautiful meal for us of prawns, mussels and a classic Ile de Re dish called Mouclade.
