Well I managed to find it OK. Kind of. The map in the Lonely Planet guidebook is pants, and a walk that should have taken about an hour took me 2, mostly because I spent an hour faffing around at the same crossroads, not sure which way to go.

Anyway, I took the cable car to the top and the view was amazing. It was the first view I´d had of the beaches and they looked incredible. Plus as I said before, it was possible to see just how far out Rio spreads, a vast mass of hotels and high rises, then in the distance, smaller buildings and shacks, all overlooked by the statue of Christo Redento.

This is where usually I´d post a photo but the PC in the hotel doesn´t have a USB port. Sorry!

As a reward (as if I need a reason) I got a beer from the bar at the top and sat admiring the view and enjoying the tranquility. Which was broken when the Italian guy next to me hawked up a huge greenie and gobbed it over the side.

Made it back home OK and went for dinner round the corner from the hotel where the waiter insisted that he cut the pizza up for me and move each slice in turn from the serving dish to the side plate. I assume because either;

1) He wanted to be extra friendly to get a better tip
2) It´s the custom over here
3) He thought I was an imbecile

I reckon it was the latter.

No need for actual pictures when you paint a picture with words, however next time you might leave out the greenie... Rock on!
