Flying into Toronto
Flying into Toronto Hey All!!!
My first proper blog entry since I started my trip. Enjoy!
Got into Toronto on the 20th August. Had a delay on the flight so got in later but not too bad. The flight was ok, more leg room then I thought. Ended up sitting next to some nice old dears who seemed to like me coz I gave them my carrots and scone.
Got in and got pulled by immigration! Had to go through 3 sets of people asking me questions and they were all pretty rude. Especially the 2nd guy. I was really worried but I made it through. No signs to the airport express bus, had to ask but got that and went to my hostel.
The hostel is ok, pretty clean, fair sized room. I got a bottom bunk which is a larger bed so that was sweet. Bathroom is not too bad, got to remember to bring your towel in with you though. Its a quiet place tho outside you can hear noises of the city. There is a park across from it to, I thought it was a bit questionable when I arrived but it ain't too bad.
So the
Downtown - theatre district i think?
Downtown or Finance or Theatre district! next day I explored Toronto. I saw Chinatown, Little Italy, Kensignton market, downtown, finance district, theatre district, entertianment and historic district. I got pretty lost, think I walked off the map at one point and if there was the wroing way to go down a street, I went. Had a good lunch tho, pretty cheap and filling. Later on I tried some famosu Timothy Houghtons doughnuts. I managed to and bit before I got full, think the glaze was a mistake. Brought them back to the hostel, offered them out, left them in the kitchen with a note saying to ake one but no1 did as far as I am aware - snobbyy sods. Anyway, I was well knackered from walking around so had a rest at the hostel and then headed out to find a place in my guide book for a drink. I looked but it wasn't there so I guess my guide book is out of date - bloody uni bookshop selling out of date books! Found a bar/resturant place that had a sky sports channel so went in there, only had one coz I thought it was a bit expensive for the drink. Chilled in the
New City Hall
New City Hall hostel the rest of the night.
Went to Niagara Falls today on a tour. That was eventful. The bus broke down!! Hour and half to wait before a new bus came. Luckily it broke down outside of a new 5 * health resort. No I didnt get a free spa treatment but did eat in their resturant, shared a table with some canadians on the tour and a nice meal before we got a better bus to the Falls. Missed out on seeing some stuff at Niagara-on-the-Lake due to the lost time but got to the Falls and had a few hours there. Did a 'Maid of the Mist' tour, they have been going since 1861 and you get a boat that takes your right near the bottom of the Canadian Falls. It was awesome!!! I got well soaked!!! Worth it though. After the boat ride I looked in the gift shop and checked out the area. There is a large hill with amusements and knock off museums. I took more pics of the falls, had an ice cream and then headed right down to the edge of the Falls where I got soaked again before heading back on
Me outside the Birchwood winery
Me outside the Birchwood Winery the bus. Chatted to some english girls on the bus, they were cool. The bus driver was a decent guy, tho loved the english girls since they were loud and talking to him all the time. Got back in the evening and chilled before trying to sort out photos, gave up and went out for some food, came back and I got the pics to work! They are in a gallery at mo, I have added some here but the full lot is in the gallery - however you access that!
Tomorrow I aim to go the CN tower and check out the Habour front and then if I got my ticket right (which I may not have) I will get an evening bus to New York City!!!!!! I am worried about the border coz of my harsh time with Canadain immigration but I reckon if I am nice and I have my papers and they give me the form to fill in, I will be ok, hopefully!!!
Looking forward to seeing New York. Hope everyone who reads this ok and will try and update either in or after New York.
