Buenos Aires y Iguazu Falls
I have finally made it home, and California has never seemed so good. Upon arrival home I have traveled roughly 15,555 miles, and am ready for some Cali´ in my life. Spent the day today on the beach in SB.
Our time spent in Argentina was great. We began with touring the city for a few days and enjoying a traditional tango show. We found Buenos Aires to be a very cosmopolitan city in comparison to the rest of South America. The Porteños (locals) go as far as to consider it the Paris of South America. The food was a very welcome change from the likes of Peru and Bolivia. Of our 12 nights here, we probably had steak 6 or 7 times. The best part is, it´s still South America so it is relatively cheap. On the other hand, any weight we lost eating the staples they consider food in Cuzco has been gained back plus some. The women of Buenos have to be mentioned as well. To put it mildly, they are very pleasing to the eye.
We split up our time in Buenos Aires with a 3
Snow Capped Andes
Flight from Chile to Buenos Aires day trip to the northwestern tip of Argentina, Iguazu Falls. The bus ride each way was about 17hrs but the buses in Argentina are absolutely luxurious. Wine, champagne, massive seats that lay flat and movies (in English!!) all added up to be a very pleasant couple nights on the bus. The falls are easily the most amazing natural sight I have ever seen. There are 270 falls that stretch an amazing 1.7 miles wide. Hopefully my pictures give an idea of their breadth. We were not able to make it to the Brazilian side which offers the infamous panoramic view. The best part of the waterfalls excursion was easily our jet boat ride that took us right up under the falls.
Upon our arrival back in Buenos on Saturday we prepped for the nightlife. It is commonplace in Buenos Aires to go clubbing at a ridiculous 1am and come home a long time after the sun rises. One club even prides itself in staying open until 3pm. Needless to say, we made it to bed a little after 6am.
Sunday night was spent at a Boca Juniors soccer match. Many international sports journalists regard Boca´s derby
Obelisko
Downtown Buenos Aires. match with cross city rival River Plate as the number one sports spectacle in the world. We weren´t lucky enough to see that match-up, but we were more than satisfied with the game we saw against San Martin from the north. The fans are SO passionate that the Boca fans (us of course) have to be locked in the stadium for a half hour after the game until the visiting fans left. Unbelievable experience.
The last two nights of the trip have were spent in Lima, Peru along with some VERY aggravating flight delays that left me stranded in San Salvador, El Salvador for a night (do yourself a favor and avoid TACA airlines at all costs!!). David left Galen and I early Wednesday morning so we became the last two gringos standing out of the the seven that left Cuzco together. We spent our final day in South America checking out a monastery in Lima that held a very disturbing 70,000 people buried in catacombs beneath the church, checking out Barrio Chino (China Town) and sharing numerous beers and ceviche with a local Limeno and his girlfriend that we met on the street.
Needless to
Cabrera on Cabrera
Top 5 steakhouse in the world. say, we are ready for home. The last week or so we have been dreaming of sunny California. Our entire time in South America was spent in the middle of Winter and we can really use some Vitamin D.
To conclude, writing this blog has been an absolute pleasure over the last two months. Hopefully all of you have enjoyed it as well. I really hope I have influenced a few of you to delve into the world of travel blogs as well, I would love to read about your travels. On a final note, I truly can´t wait to get home and see all of you in person. Besos,
