Thats us in San Diego, up early this morning to catch a tram to the USA-Mexico border at Tijuana. It was very easy to get into Mexico, a pleasant stroll across a bridge but another story on the way back. Tijuana is crazy with loads of people trying to sell you stuff and you can see the poverty all over the place! We ended up buying things even though we said we werent! We went to a nice Mexican restaurant and had nachos and margaritas. It was an experience anyway and im glad i didnt need to walk about there on my own. On the way back the queue was literally miles long. There is no cover and you are exposed to the sun in the middle of the afternoon. A couple of guys were trying advertising taxis to take you acrooss the border, no traffic queues etc. Once we determined that it was legal :-) we decided to go for it cos we were wilting in that heat! However about 10 mins into to the journey we realised that the traffic was mental and we would have been quicker walking it. In the end up 9 of us piled out

The home of the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" in the middle of a traffic lane and joined the back of the queue again, at the expense of $5 each. We learned our lesson anyway! :-)
So San Diego is great, we really like it here. A great party atmosphere surrounds the place. The streets are mobbed and we found out that there is a The Comic Book Convention on and American Idol auditions. The CBC is apparently the largest in the world and loads of stars were there to join in the fun, Nicolas Cage was photographed at it. So as you can imagine there were lots of weird and wonderful people dressed up as aliens and the like.
We had to hold Cat back from auditioning for American Idol. There were a few people in our hostel who were auditioning and i tell you the americans really are deluded sometimes. They wanted to sing for us all the time and we heard them that much, we went from being nice and telling them they were doing well to Cat telling one of them to sit on his arse he hadnt won it yet. Dont know what they made of her honesty half the time but

passing thru to Mexico it was fun. One girl in our dorm, Aleisha, is 25, married with 3 kids and she was really good and she looked the part too so we will watch out for her and hopefully she will remember us when she is famous. :-0 I cant believe the long process it takes to audition. Yor are auditioning over a period of about 2 months before you even get to perform in front of Simon, Randy and Paula. No wonder the poor souls who are terrible think they have something by the time they get to that stage....they have already passed about 4 auditions before that.
We went to the beach and my goodness have we suffered. I swear i had factor 30 on although you woudnt think it from my photo! Its really windy so you dont feel the sun. San Diego beach was absolutely mobbed, people having bbq's and drinking and having lots of fun.
They really do make a day of it here.
We hired a car for the next 2 weeks to take us up the coast, Judy is going to drive the whole way. I am so happy because it may mean i dont

The Walk of Fame need to get on another Greyhound bus for the rest of my stay in America. So the drive from San Diego to LA was only supposed to take about 3 hours. It ended up almost 9 hours!! There was tension in the air that night thats for sure :-) We drove for hours trying to find this hostel and it in the end up had to go into a fire station to ask about it. The hostel doesnt even exist anymore! It was demolished about 2 years ago but still has the same number so we were at the totally wrong end of town. We got there eventually, shattered!! Then in the morning we woke up to find a parking ticket for $70 on the windshield so that just added to the fun!
We went to Sunset Strip to Mings Chinese Theatre. All the stars have their handprints on the sidewalk there, some of them from 1920's and 30's which is cool. We walked some of the Walk of Fame, trying to find the corner where Julie Roberts stood in Pretty Woman but were unsuccessful. We took a Starline Tour of the Hollywood Homes which was great. You cant

sipping margaritas see a lot of the big homes but it was eye-opening anyway. I didnt find out till afterwards but i used the ladies toilet where George Michael was caught engaging in some outdoor activities. If i had known at the time i would have taken a picture of the place :-) We saw the huge mansion that Simon Cowell is building at the moment, the Aaron Spelling mansion, the Playboy mansion, Bruce Willis house ( who lives right across the road from Demi & Ashton), Sylvester Stallones, Britneys, Paris etc. Jennifer Aniston has 7 Doberman Pinchers in her driveway so beware! We also went to Bel Air and Beverly Hills where we seen more homes but really too many too mention. After that we went up into the hills to get a look at the Hollywood sign but it was a bit foggy up there.
We went for a saunter down Rodeo Drive but thankfully it was late and most of the shops were shutting so we didnt have to embarrass ourselves by going in :-) There's no Richard Gere here to stick up for us!
Went to a new club thats not long opened with 9 Irish guys

Jennifer Anistons Beverly Hills, you cant see the dogs here :-) who are sharing a dorm with us but it was quiet as it was only Wednesday night. Almost got thrown out of hostel afterwards for drunk and terrible dancing behaviour. They banished us to the basement where itunes was available so we continued the party down there till the security guy told us to shut up again.
Spent an afternoon at Venice Beach or muscle beach as it is fondly known over here. They are very serious about their bodies on Venice beach so it was fun people watching over a peachy peach martini! Oh the life!! :-) x x
