Cliffs of Sardinia
Part of the 650 step walk to the Neptunes Grotto Back again with another episode of the latest version of my trails around the world. This time battling on a new front...Italy.
Sardinia, is one of the islands at the end of the "boot" of Italy, deep in the Med Sea. The water is clearer than a teenagers face after a bottle of clean and clear, and the weather is hotter than a Paris Hilton jail cell.
My first experience with Ryan Air was a mixed one, the flight was quite good and fast, but you can really tell the budget side of things when it came to the landing, which felt like the plane dropped from about 50 metres.
After going through customs ( a small hut off the runway ) my traveller instincts kicking in straight away, and instead of getting a taxi to the hotel, i thought it would be a great idea to get the local bus and then a taxi from town, to save the hard earned coin.
Was a great idea until we got to town and there were no taxis in sight. We walked the whole length of the beach, and when we got to the end, Em had a
Neptunes Grotto
Inside the caves complete meltdown and sat in a silent protest of my incompetence. Minutes later we got some nice Italian man to take us the 300 metres to where are hotel actually was, for the price of what it would have been from the airport....lesson learnt.
There is not much to do in Alghero, apart from sunbake, swim and drink beers, so the holiday was bound to be sweet as from the start, and i quickly got used to the local customs and parked up on the beach for hours.
One of the highlights of the trip was when a Italian legend locked himself in a beachside toilet, much to our amusement, and then watched a girl walk away with the keys to get out of the bathroom, he then broke the window to try and get out, but was still stuck!! It was very funny, watching a man at the height of embarrassment, but still playing it cool.
The second day we set off early to see the famous Neptunes Grotto, a series of underground caves set right up on a cliff face, which was sensational. When the caves were discovered first by fishermen, they named it after
the god of the sea, Neptune, hence the name Neptunes Grotto. What wasnt sensational was the 650 step mission to get to the caves, on the face of a cliff, in 35 degree weather, but in the end it was all worth it.
We had a quick drive around the island, where i managed to trash the living crap out of a rental car, and the whole place is a paradise of olive groves, beaches, and sunsets, was a great time, highly reccommended.
Thats it for now guys, will update you soon of my next mission, hope everyone is keeping well, if anyone fancies a trip up to the real england, let me know and will be glad to show you round this sweet town filled with distinguished gentlemen.
Happy travelling!!!!!!!!

I just read this now...
Noon i just read this now and had a good old chuckle to myself. Firstly - you are so right, the highlight of the holiday had to be when that old mate got stuck in the toilet with his speedos on. Absolute classic!! Secondly about those bloody steps - do you remember when i got to the top and was like....water........i need water....get me water now!! And then the next day i coulnt even put my feet flat on the floor because my legs were hurting so bad. They were happy happy times. If only they had places with good breakfast though......but thats another story. I love you xxxx
