Time flies when you are having fun. Just one suni-filled day left here before we depart for Cambodia. We have had just enough time here... though never enough in the minds of the little ones. Stunning place to break up a lengthy journey, and just what we needed. Can not say that we have strayed far from the resort, but really there has been little need to. There are some basic excursions that one can take... but they would only attempt to duplicate what we saw in Borneo. And, to be fair to the kids we selected not to drag them around too much for our time here. These days by the beach and pool are as much for them as they are for us.
Today it tried to rain... the first time this trip!!! Not bad considering that we are traveling in the rainy season through most places. Though, I can hardly call what we saw today 'rain'. A few drops that landed on our reddish brown shoulders and quickly evaporated. That was it. Enjoyed our usual morning stroll along the strip in search of a breakfast venue. It costs less for all 4 of us to eat brekkie
down the road than it would for just one of us to eat at the hotel morning buffet. Kids enjoy a mix of juice / croissants / cereal / sausages. Tordes and I can dine on french toast / fruit pancakes / cereal / yoghurt / etc. Mmmm, fresh pineapple or mango juice to start the day.
After convincing Riel all day to join me on a jetski for 20 minutes she finally agreed. Damm... it was too windy and we could not go out... what a bummer. She was finally mentally prepared and gathered the courage to come out... so it was really too bad. As I left the poolside to come and write this, Luca had fallen asleep under and umbrella after enjoying a chocolate ice cream. Tordes was reading... and Riel was in the pool. She reminds me so much of Hazel when she was the same age, spending the entire day in the water!! It suits her fine that there is a swim-up bar where she can order drinks and just sign them to our room. She keeps asking 'why do we have to leave tomorrow'. At least our next 5 nights are at hotels
that have pools (smart planning on our behalf). Can't exactly expect to walk around all day in Cambodia in this heat. Will most likely head out early... and again in the late afternoon. Mid-day of course will be at the hotel. Tordes is excited about Cambodia as she has never been. Tomorrow is mostly traveling as we head back to KL and then up to Phnom Penh. But... we don't have to leave the hotel until 0930... ideal really. Our one sightseeing day in Phnom Penh will be a bit of a shift.... with visits to the killing fields / teoul sleng prison / etc. Not sure what Riel will make of all of that. Must wait and see. Nice little central hotel planned for that stay... walking distance to the Russian Market (forged goods) and Central Market (everything and anything).
Again... kids are handling the heat well... or at least as well as us. The only time it affects Riel is when she 'has' to walk to dinner... then it is always too hot. Or, when she has to go to bed.. it is always too hot. Luca does well... though he takes full advantage of the stroller
Our new traveling companions !!!
funny the people you meet whilst searching for Orang Utans we brought along!! Not sure what the hell we would have done without it.... as it has been a godsend. Funny little guy never likes it at home... but here it allows him to cope with the heat and humidity. He of course launches from it whenever he sees a lizzard, bird, turtle, or bug of any sort.
Each night Luca insists that we visit the turtle that lives in a pond near the reception.... he hunts for it and we can't leave until he spots it. He also loves the musicians that play in the lounge.... imagine Dolly & Kenny songs sung with a Malaysian accent. Our resort seems less than half full... which is great. Just enough people that it does not feel dead... but no competition for chairs by the beach or pool... no lineups ... and lots of attention from the staff. Apart from a few Europeans (Denmark / Holland / Wales / England), most of the guests seem to come from the Gulf.... having come here to cool down and escape the heat!!!! go figure. They come from Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi... etc. Makes for a great multicultural stay. Though quite the contrast as the
men lounge about in the sun as their wives sit fully covered in black from head to toe... watching the goings-on from that 1 inch eye-slit through which they view the world. What are they thinking as they look at the bikinis around the pool? Interesting indeed... same planet, different worlds.
Am going to try and attach some photos here... so will see if it works
ciao

Breakfast
Sausages? Pancakes? French toast? Sounds like you are at the local IHOP to me! Orangutangs and "Corrie" - now there's a collison of cultures! Did you get any scoop as it what is coming up on the "Street"?
