Ah... a month of freedom! My last month in the office has v-e-r-y slowly come to a close and I am now once again gainfully unemployed, enhancing my wellbeing and enjoying the northern summer. Work in Suisse starts at the beginning of September, until then Asia and I are putting our relationship to the test and will be travelling for a month in the UK and a few select spots in south-east Europe. We have a flght to Rijeka in Croatia, and a visa to pick up in Prague two weeks later.. where we'll end up in between times is anyone's guess 😊

It's amazing how long 4 weeks can take when you're waiting for a chance to do nothing. It wasn't all bad either.. I spent a week in a small village up at Loch Ewe helping to plan a new sewerage treatment scheme.. meeting the locals, their brothers and sisters, in-laws, and the Doctor who was master of the local perfumery... The whole trip turned into a bit of a PR exercise, but two full day's driving through the highlands coupled with a lodge accomodating 700 whiskeys and it's very own distillery ensured the trip was always going to be worthwhile.

There's been a fair bit of catching up to do as well.. taking the time to do the Edinburgh thing and catch up with people who'll be over the water soon. Pete, Carly and Hamish paid a visit for a BBQ on the first rain-free weekend of summer; and Kate, Clare and I met up at the ruins of Linlithgow Palace for a traditional Ceildh one night.

Finally getting to a Celdh was an amazing experience, I only really went because I'd run out of excuses ("how much is it?..." "and what time?.." "so can I get a train from work?.." "And what if my left foot is bigger than my right?.."). But really, listening and dancing to traditional Scottish music on a warm summer night with people from the full range of ages - from 8 to 80 years old! It was quite a phenomenon, I think it's cool even for teenagers to show up and have a good time 😊

Anyway.. the Edinburgh Festival is on, summer is finally here, and i'm wasting valuable holiday time. I'll let you know how freedom's shaping up in a few weeks!
