Spain. I have been looking forward to this part of the trip the most. We woke up and headed out to a morning walk along the Roman fortress walls of the city. Great views from up there. Killer steps and a long trek, but worthwhile. We met a nice couple from England on the way when we encountered a bit of a roadblock. Seems someone had locked one of the doors in the middle of the wall about halfway across. There was a French family on the other side who were trying to make it across to our side, but we were both trapped. So, instead of continuing along, we all had to turn it around and call it a day.

We stopped and had coffees at a cute little cafe under a big tree and then walked around the streets. It was like stepping back in time. There is a lot of shopping here and a lot of modernisms, but it all seems to work together somehow with the feel of the city.

I was excited to have lunch in the old Jewish plaza that we had found the night before. It looked like it had a bunch of good restaurants. We sat down at on around 12:00 only to be reminded that in Espana you don´t eat lunch before 1 pm (and some would consider that early). We waited and enjoyed a drink, and then when it was time we had our first menu del dia, which is pretty popular here.

I also learned a very important lesson. I don´t like Frideua. I think its gross in fact. You can keep it.

Note: Pictures of the Frideua and Girona in general don´t exist. But trust me, it was gross.

Made it to Barcelona in the early afternoon and checked into the Centric Point Hostel. For around 24€ a night you can stay on one of the poshest streets in town right next to some of the best Gaudi works. We had dinner at nearby Don Quixote, which is certainly for tourists, but was very good and was recommended to us by a nice lady at the hostel. After dinner we walked down to the beach and made plans to take the Bus Turistic tour the next day to learn the city. Plus, we were very tired from walking so riding around on a bus sounded just right.

Back at the hostel they had assigned my Mom a top bunk, which meant she would have to climb a ladder to get to her bed. I also had a top bunk so I couldn´t switch. Mom is in pretty good shape, but it would have been a struggle to get up and down that ladder for most anyone. Thankfully, a nice Australian offered to trade beds. So thank you, nice Australian girl. I hope you had a great time in Barcelona!

explain yourself!
What is Frideua? I googled it, with no luck. Your blog was the first result!
