BonjourBonjourBonjour

Olivier serves a very nice breakfast and gives great directions. Thank you Olivier!
Anyone who says that has not been to Avignon. As jaded as I am, coming from LA, I was inspired by the spirit that went into this festival and the community that seems to exist here. People were really having fun and all of the groups seemed like they were working together because they loved it. It reminded me of high school and what I loved about being in plays then.

We woke up at the Hotel Cube and enjoyed a great breakfast, served by the hotel´s brand new owner, Olivier. Olivier and his partner bought the hotel just a week before and were/are in the process of renovating it. He was a big help in getting us set off on our day and helping us get oriented to our surroundings. The coffee and croissants were good too.

I had my first frambuesa gelato of the trip at about 10 am. That´s not too early right? There are no rules for that. Sightseeing here was especially great because the city is so compact. After a bit of that, we had lunch on the plaza right underneath the Palace of the Popes at a place called Le Lutrin. I had my first gazpaxto of the trip and a french dessert that was cottage cheese with some kind of raspberry sauce. Don´t know if that sounds good to you or not, but it was.

Olivier had given us a tip for dinner, an Italian place on the edge of the fortress. After roaming around the city some more and taking in more performances, we headed that way. Guess what I had? My dream meal. Only I didn´t know it was my dream meal. I´ll give it to you in French cause it sounds better: Ravioles imperiales, gardianne de taureau, artichauts, olives noires sautees, sauce au piment d´Esplette.

Think the day can´t get any better? Think again. As we walked just outside the fortess wall we saw another section of the festival which included a big fair with a ferris wheel and more booths. The sun was just setting and I hope you can see how beautiful it was from the pics I took. You just can´t capture it though. You all have to go. I insist.
