Well it finally happened - we got stuff nicked by some dastardly Peruvians. Nothing much of value was taken, and we still have all our photographs stored (don't worry,we've made sure we can still take pictures etc by way of a cheap digi camera) so it doesn't really matter that much, but it's annoying that it happened. It was about 6.45am, and we were trying to catch a bus that was trying very hard to avoid us. We had booked it with a lady who had said it would pick us up from our hotel, which it didn't. We then had to go and find a non-specific location on a road, which we didn't manage to. We sat down to get our bearings, and at some point someone made off with one of our day-bags. We don't know who or when, but several people offered us hotel cards and one woman asked with much vigour what the time was. Any of these could have been a distraction for an accomplice to make off with our belongings. Tourist tip: never let go of your bags, and take taxis everywhere when you have all your luggage with you. Also it's best to have a location to go to that actually exists.

Anyway, furious with the lady from the agency who had lied to us and caused us this distress, we headed for her shop and gave her some traditional english grief. It took a long time (a good few hours), but we did eventually get replacement tickets, and part of our money back (we lost 5 dollars in the end, but the lady lost 45 so I guess it's even - good job they aren't so poor here or we'd feel guilty about it. Laura turned away three potential customers, which didn't please her one bit). Anyway the rest of the day was spent with the tourist police, who also helped us resolve the situation with the lady. They spoke nada inglais, but we eventually got all of the information needed to file an official report, that will allow us to claim back all costs from our insurance company. Even though it's the cheapest insurance going we're still covered for 1500 quid of stolen items.
