Bali

Well after our great flight with Qantas we arrived in Bali at some hour of the morning!

There is a set rate for taxis at the airport and we wanted to be some where that was not built up but not too far away as it was very late so we opted for Sanur opposed to the busy Kuta! we got a taxi and he took us to the cheapest place he knew! In the dark Bali looked a lot more built up than we had thought it would be, we arrived at the hotel and had to wake up the owners they showed me 2 rooms one with a/c and one without! He asked a lot for the room rate, well alot from what we have been used too and we had no choice really so we went for the non a/c room for 150.000Rp (about 11quid).

In the morning we soon realised that This was not the place we wanted to be it was full of package holidays, which to be honest we thought it would be in Kuta maybe but not so much here! We were wrong............We had all kinds of ideas of what we wanted to do 'go to oz earlier' 'go to Lombok' 'go to the Gili islands'??????????? One thing was for sure we did not want to stay here, it was very expensive and did not have any character at all.

Not to judge Bali we thought maybe hiring a car and exploring the island would be a good idea so priced it up then did a bit of research on the other ideas. As we got up too late to hire a car we decided that we would go to Lombok and either go to the Gili islands or to Rinjani, An active volcano that you can trek up that takes you 3days. Thanks to other peoples blogs we could make this decision. We thought that we were going to spend 3weeks in Bali and maybe go to Java......amazing how things just totally change when you are travelling!

After we booked our tickets we sat and had some cheap food down a small street with a local guy that we had met in the Internet place, he was training to be a priest and was telling us that many people will not come to Indonesia due to the national airline being banned form EU air space and that they are too old! He was saying that this was not the real Bali and there is more to it than this........so we will go with the car hire idea when we get back to Bali before our flight to Australia!

We are in the Gili islands now on Gili meno, we will write soon to tell you how we got here and what its like. The PCs are so slow here it has taken me forever to write what i have just written! Hope everybody is OK, speak soon xxxxxxxxxx
