Today we really had to make it. 80 nm to our next target (the island Poros) which would be close enough to get home easily on the next day. 80 nm means at least 10 hours of way, more likely 14. So we left Syros in the morning with the fog still hanging over the sea (bad weather was expected). As always only the skipper was to be seen the first few hours and we had to motor a long way. We passed Kythnos in the south and the crew woke up, wind grew stronger so we finally set the sails and were heading west with 7.5 kn. Sailing this long way can be really boring so Jeff put up a fitness workout once again (me and the boys we had been doing this every second day) but this time almost all joined in what turned out to be a 1,5 hour workout on the boat in the middle of the sea - VERY impressive. And to make the memory last longer I decided to get a sunburn on the nose :-)

In the afternoon everybody was ready to swim so I stopped the boat with “Beidrehen”, put a line into the water and we got into the water and just held tight to the rope. The depth was more than we could measure but the temperature was very nice (I was told because being a good skipper I stayed on board of course…).

In the evening we arrived in Poros and made it to the harbour. It is a really beautiful town, not as styled as Mykonos but a lot more real. We had the boat directly at a restaurant where we went for dinner and we all agreed that we should have been sailing around here sometime and not have gone so far into the Cyclades (where you wont see much more but stones :-)). But here it was green, people were friendly, prices were low - we liked it.

In the night I was a little afraid because we had to anchor in front and 2 lines in the back (as usual) but a stream with 1kn from starboard, a strong wind from starboard and ferries passing by often. Again I slept outside in the net but I woke up twice from a dream where we caught a big wave from a ferry which lifted the boat and smashed it onto another one. :D - did not sleep to well and long. But did I mention that the food was nice? And let’s not forget that this town was very nice. Also the food was cheap and very nice. Ah, yes. I am writing this with another hangover, so please forgive if I repeat irrelevant things. Nice food there…
