Tonight is our last night in Anaheim, and we've had loads of fun at the theme parks. Yesterday wasn't as crazy as we thought it would be, and we managed to get through most of Disney, except for a few rides. It was a very hot day, and I'm now wishing I had packed a few white tops, and a little sundress, but I'm sure I can pick these up in LA. Apart from the heat, it was a great day...although Disney is a little overrated...lots of merchandise and very repetitive. Still, we did have a blast...and as I'm typing this at 9:32 pm, I can hear the fireworks display blasting away in the background.
We started off in Fantasyland, and went on some great rides...at least I thought they were great. Iz, being the faithful husband that he is, boarded Peter Pan's flying ship through Neverland, Mr Toad's crazy car through London, and a funny looking caterpillar for a ride through Alice's Wonderland. I know these were rides for all the littlies, but I LOVED them...they were well paced, and not too scary. Roger Rabbits car ride, on the other hand, shoudln't have a spinning option!
We
then ventured into Tomorrow Land and went into Innoventions, but this was mostly a video games room...and sadly, we didn't travel half way around the world to play video games, so we headed to the Star Wars ride instead. As soon as we walked into the building, I was in my comfort zone....I LOVE STAR WARS. C3P0 and R2D2 welcome you into the ride, before you make your way into the ACTUAL ride...a simulator...not my comfort zone! I wasn't feeling the best (after the 12 hour flight the day before, and on a fairly empty stomach) so I tried to not feel ill as we flew out of the hanger and into space, around Darth Vadar's cruiser...but as soon as we jumped to light speed, and began a full on attack on the Death Star, I had to look at my knees, put my cap over my eyes, and listen to Izzy recap what was happening. Your entire seat throws you up and down, and all around, until you feel like you are part of the action. No more simulators for Chelle!
Toon Town was a bit boring...we went through the Chippendale's house (no, not the strippers) which involved
walking into a tree trunk, up a set of stairs, and down. That was it...we were both a little bewiderled as to why we had embarked on that journey. Minnie's house was cute, and Mickey's was pretty packed, so we only checked out his living room.
After this, we went to Frontier Land where Iz got to go on his first FUN ride. After trying to convince me to come with him, he eventually went on a crazy, out of control train, that zoomed around the tracks and through tunnels, like a roller coaster. I was happy to watch! We both went on the steam boat around Tom Sawyer's island, and then took a tour or Tarzan's Tree House...a bit more involved than the previous tree visit.
Iz then went on the Indiana Jones ride...which was also a bit scary for me. He had the front row seat, and said the part when the car screamed towards a rock wall, which turned out to be a very convincing hollogram, was a bit nerve racking! I love this movie, but couldn't get the guts to take the ride, and was happy to have Izzy's version of events. Especially when
he told me about the massive boulder, from the first movie, that hurtles towards your vehicle, and at the last minute, as your car ducks down a ramp after stalling, the boulder rushes overhead in the opposite direction.
We also took the Pirates of the Carribean ride, which looked like an old modified pirate ride, but with Captain Jack Sparrow thrown in here and there...it did have pretty cool animatronics though. As night set in, the crowds did too, and everyone was there to see the fireworks. We didn't get a good seat, so watched them from outside the park. After about 10 mins, hunger took over, and we headed to the Jungle Bar, a very cool restaurant that looks like a jungle; vines, trees, and exotic animals everywhere. To my horror, we were put in front of a robotic Gorilla that 'came to life' every ten minutes...which turned out to be embarrasing, not scary. We tried to look normal as this massive creature groaned, moaned, and grunted behind us. A thunderstorm occurred every 20 mins, and other animals like elephants and lions also sprang to life. The food was pretty good...very cheap for the size you get, and
the service in the States is fantastic...much better than Australia! The waiters/waitresses definitely work hard for their tips.
That was our 4th of July. Today consisted of me watching Iz do tonnes of crazy rides...and I mean crazy!! The first one was the opposite of the giant drop...it shot you up 1000 feet into the air..then down, then up, then down, then up...ahhh I feel sick just thinking about it. He then went on Big Bear's Rapids, and got totally saturated! This involved sitting in a spinning, tube with 8 other people, that rushed around the turbulent water, before sliding about 20 metres down a massive ramp...no thanks!
Izzy's worst choice - and his favourite ride - was the Hollywood Tower of Terror...I still can't believe he went on it! This ride involved sitting in one of four rows of 8 people, inside a darkened 20 storey building, and being shot up in the dark, to doors that slide open to the outside world. You are suspended in the open for a few seconds, completely disorientated. The ride has sound and lighting effects that make it seem as though the cable for your elevator is about to snap,
and before you know it, the ride is crashing back down into the dark. It then shoots you up again for a second suprise...we could hear the people screaming from our hotel lobby!
It has been a busy two days, but very enjoyable. We both feel as though we are on holidays, as it has been hectic but relaxing. It also doesn't feel as though we are half way around the world, in another country. The States, so far, has been very similar to back home, apart from the excellent service 😊 We keep running into Aussies everywhere...on the shuttle to the hotel we had 3 Aussies in our car, in the Star Wars line there were two couples from Brisbane behind us, and while waiting for a cab today, the man in front asked if we were from Australia, after recognising our accent. He was from Adelaide! Even the baby changing table in the Bakery's restroom today, was Australian made, and called Koala Care Changer - with a cute, smiling koala looking out. So really, we have felt quite at home. I guess it's a small world afterall 😊
