Hi Everyone!!!
We are now in Koh Tao but we just want to update you all on our time in Ko Samui and give you an insight to our little adventures!
We mentioned an Oz couple we met as we arrived on the Island, we had a few beers with them and went into the towns shopping and stuff, which was cool; they even had these wind-up children, they talk and talk and never EVER stop, but they were fun so that was ok...
So... We didn't mention it before, but as we were booking our trip through T.A.T, we had to give them our passports for our Laos visa, along with a lock of Lesley's hair and two stool samples (Obviously, not really; who needs a lock of hair for God's sake!)
Anyway, we didn't particularly want to give our passports away for obvious reasons, but we did because, we needed a longer visa than was available at the border and (off course) we didn't need to worry because, T.A.T Guy said Everyone does it! +Cheesy Grin = Top Job!
!!Fast forward a week and no sign of passports three days past "guaranteed" Muay Thai!!!
A night where the women laughed and the men put each other in Hospital, a thoroughly delightful occasion for all.. (except the guy in hospital) day!!
And we've learnt that, everyone does NOT do it, in fact no-one does, everyone gets it at the border and gets the longer term visa too..
After a phone call and a few more nervy days we're told that they have arrived on the opposite side of the Island!! I won't go into it anymore, basically, our passports darted about the Island like a pinball until eventually we got them, although mine is just a photocopy with a moustache drawn on the face in a Czech cover.. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be fine..
We also went to see some Thai boxing..... Female Thai boxing... Now, when did Mike Tyson last wear a T-shirt? I don't think he did!! They did...
So despite being robbed of topless Thai boxing, in mud and jelly, we did actually see some boxing... It was quite hilarious watching the women box, smiling at each other and laughing and even more hilarious when the "responsible" organisers sent in an 18 year old against a 12, yes, 12 year old!! ha ha, He got totally hammered and dragged out by his, clearly sadistic, coach!
Another day and instead of wanting to walk
Lesley models the Blue Peter Rain Mac!
This is actually how we walked home one night to avoid getting drenched by the monsoon like rain! the 5km into town for breakfast, we decided to rent a scooter, although we felt a bit odd not having 5 people to be able to cram onto it, it was fun and it got us out of the Hotel complex, which was certainly starting to send Lesley stir crazy!
We got to see a "Big Buddha" (incidentally what they mean by Big Buddha is Fooking Enormous Brass Buddha) which was impressive for about thirty seconds, but when he didn't come to life, destroy the town and eat loads of people, I got bored... Just around the corner however was an ingenious game of Football Golf, Lesley wasn't too keen so we skipped it, but I thought it was worth a mention just from a novelty perspective at least...
We visited some waterfalls and despite the water here smelling like the morning after a Vindaloo, the Americans couldn't wait to re-inact Holloywood movie scenes and dived straight in! Yum!
We'll whack some pictures on, let us know what you think!
Take care all of you,
Andi
Finally I get a say!
We had a great few days on the scooter getting to explore the Island. The last day was the best though as we decided to visit a view point. Not being able to get all the way their on the scooter as we were going cross country we decided to park it up and walk the final 150m. We went slightly off track and came across a little family cutting wood, they seemed very pleased to see us and Andi tried out his Thai. What was more impressive was the huge elephant right behind them munching away on the trees!!!!!
We wondered a bit further in and found a load of huts, like a little village next to a waterfall, and on the other side were even more elephants. I was a bit disappointed when I saw them chained to the trees though, obviously there just for the tourists.
Then came our escape from the jungle..........it got really dark and the heavens opened we ran.........(no Andi ran as I had flip flops on, I just slipped around a bit)....back to the scooter and made our quick escape out of there.
We also got a Thai massage on our final day on the Island, we had it on the beach
and it was the most painful experience ever. I was expecting to drift off to sleep being all relaxed. Oh no...... I was punched and pulled and squeezed and prodded. To top it all we had a foot scrub which was so tickerley, I couldn't help but be in fits of laughter. The perfect torture!!!!!!
We decided to change our trip slightly, instead of going to Ko Pan Nang where the famous full moon party is, we have skipped that Island for the next which is Ko Tao. The full moon party didn't appeal to us really, lots (30,000) of drunk stoned people on a beach trying to get into each others knickers with inflated prices...nah.
We have opted for a 4 day diving course, in the so called diving Island of the world. Its the cheapest place to do it so we would be fools to miss out!!!
We will keep you updated with no doubt more eventful stories!
Lesley
