A starfish don't ya know
probably one of the more interesting things at melbourne aquarium... hello :D
I haven't had an overly exciting few days, more getting ready for my jaunt to alice springs and the famous red centre really!!! i can't believe that my flight is in the morning! it leaves melbourne at 8.35am, so i have to be at the airport by 7.30am, argh!! but nick is giving me a lift, so tis all ok! am amazingly grateful - don't have to get the bus at 6.00am like i had originally planned, phew!
needless to say, much preparation (please read as shopping) has been done by myself. i've bought suntan lotion (ever the optimist!), bug spray and even a super cool hat (think cork hat, minus the corks, lol!). i even attempted to buy shorts but failed miserably and ended up buying short trousers - those who know me even at all will not be surprised by this, hehe 😊
i'm in the middle of packing, its not going amazingly well though 😊 (again, i can almost sense the total lack of surprise from certain people...!)
oooh, exciting stuff, have booked my flight to cairns! am leaving alice springs next tuesday (the 30th) afternoon! really looking forward to it -
hey, jelly man!
pretty jelly fishes :) beaches, hot weather, the great barrier reef!!!! yay! (more the australia i was expecting i think, lol!!)
ummm ok, let me think... haven't had anymore tram adventures 😊 i did manage to catch the bus to werribee plaza on saturday though (with the help of tourist information) to do a little bit of shopping. the bus driver thought that it was amazing that i was from england and that i was travelling on my own and decided that it would be his job to befriend me during the journey, which made it go a little faster 😊
anyhoo, the plaza - think the arndale centre in luton. minus a huge percentage of the annoying people. and really super clean. good fun, i'm sure you'll all agree. had sushi for lunch (am totally loving the fact that there are sushi bars absolutely everywhere!!), yay!
sunday i decided to do the tourist thing again and went into melbourne. i was commended on my starbucks ordering technique (i am now officially sad i think), lol.
a lot of the smaller shops were closed, which i though was quite strange for a large city?? however, all of the millions of cafes were
nick & rachael's house
where i've been staying for the past 2 weeks :) open, so i went to one called caffe e biscotti (c&b) for lunch/brunch type food things. the food was soooooo good (i had sardinian eggs), the coffee was great and all of the waiters were totally gorgeous :D hehe! would totally recommend the place!
ahem, moving swiftly on! i decided to take a trip to melbourne aquarium - wish i hadn't bothered. it was expensive and to be perfectly honest, quite boring and small 😞 ahhhh, and because i'm silly and had forgotten it was actually the weekend the place was rammed with children. not fun. the jelly fish were quite cool - they were in a room that was lit with a uv light or something along those lines, and they all glowed. and i held a starfish. and a shark egg, i guess that was kinda cool. but yeah, in general, bit of a waste of time and money really. apparently the sydney aquarium is really good, so i'll maybe have to go there when i get to sydney 😊 we shall see!
yesterday i went to do a little bit more shopping in melbourne 😊 (totally essential, honest!) just wandered around, bought a few bits and pieces, went to starbucks to buy the obvious melbourne souvenir for myself - a melbourne starbucks city mug :D hehe, i'm sad, i'm obsessed, i know all of this, now leave me be!!
which, i think, brings me up to today. i went to the plaza again, literally to get my last few bits, so i think i'm pretty much sorted now. hm. just the packing...dammit!
have been feeling a little homesick, but i'm sure it will pass once i get into the swing of things - i'm not quite used to this whole "making my own decisions" thing yet. and not having anyone to confer with over whether or not its a good decision or a bad decision or whatever. but i'll get used to - i'm going to have to! and so far (touch wood!!) so good on the decision making front methinks! am certainly getting more confident and decisive, thats for sure!
bit of a boring update i'm afraid, but an update none-the-less, and for that, you should all be grateful!
next time you hear from me i shall be in the northern territory! eep, scary stuff!
missing you all, hope you're all ok
hugs
lins
