A snake snuck into the training room at the office during a loan officer training. Boskar, one of the guys who helps out at the office, came and killed the snake. I was horrified.
As soon as we came back from Bombay, panic ensued, as we realized that we had a presentation to give in two days. And it wasn’t going to be just for Vikash… the CEO and COO would be there as well to hear or ideas and proposals. For two days straight, we typed away , trying to finish our reports, and made our powerpoints. I got a case of the delhi belly and stayed home, reading The Namesake, a book I would recommend to anyway.

Wednesday was both my birthday and presentation day. In the morning, I left the office to grab some water and snacks but when I came back, Emily Yao urged me to go get some more food, i.e. get out of the office because they were preparing a surprise. When I came back for real, they had decorated the office with streamers and a sign and they all had colorful birthday hats on. The girls got me bright blue bangles in Bombay.

Our presentation was pretty smoking… mostly because we all dressed up in Indian garb… but I think the content was also satisfactory. We got to meet the CEO for the first time

and she gave us thank presents for our hard work. The highlight was most definitely when Emily Yao called ABA (Alexandria Business Association, an MFI that she did a case study on) the “Maharaja of High Repayment Rates.” We were trying desperately to control our laughter, but Mrs Reddy and Suresh did not find it so humorous. We had some last minute things to finish up and then we headed in to town for my birthday dinner!

Lonely Planet recommended a place in the center so we hopped on a bus. When we got off, for some reason, no one really knew where the street was. One guy on a bike offered to help us find it. I am not sure who agreed to that, but basically “guided” us (aka, followed us) for 15 minutes saying that he knew a very nice place to eat. Something led me to believe that he was not taking us to the restaurant where we wanted to go, but one that his buddy owned. So we dropped him and went on our own. We saw a very cool looking lounge called Casa del Sol on a rooftop. So we hit it up.

The place had all sorts of amazing food and a pretty good vibe. Our waiter was a little too pushy for my tastes. He insisted on having us drink Evian water but I kept on saying that Kingfisher was quite alright because I assumed the Evian would be twice as expensive as the standard bottled water. Turns out, a liter of kingfisher was 50 Rupees… four times what we pay at the corner store.

We headed back after some cake and the girls began packing their stuff and preparing for their early flight. We stayed up until 2:00 am, when they left for the airport. Justin left at about 5:00 am and Yuko left the following night. It was Ryan and me… left alone to rock and roll in the Garden City.
