This was a picture we had taken of us in the camera shop when buying this camera - we got conned - the guy had adjusted the quality of the photo so that this camera looked better than the Sony one, this one is not even a named brand - but in the shop it was made to look amazing!
Bobby and I ventured out to Hong Kong on a British airways flight from Gatwick at 9:30pm - for a 12 hour flight.

We sat next to a lovely girl in her mid 20's who's sister lived in Hong Kong and told us about loads of cool places we could visit. The flight was long and there was a bit of turbulence but we managed to sleep most of the way.

In the last few hours we rumaged through our Lonely Planet guide to Hong Kong book in search for a place to stay for the night.

It was extremely hot when we stepped off the plane, and we had to carry our big heavy backpacks to find our hostel.

To get to our hostel we had to travel by a cable cart that went high into the mountains.

The hostel was very basic, just a bed with communal showers and tolilets, the room was stuffy with quite a few creepy crawlies that made me jump!

Had the worst nights sleep - not primarily due to the creepy crawlies but because of the thunder and lightening that was right outside our door - we

Tired of walking around int he heat we decided to take a rest and sit in the sunshine in Kowloon Park - beautiful isnt it?!
heard a few branches snap in the bolts of lightening!

The next day we went to see the Big Buddha - it was huge! It sat high in the mountains, which you had to climb many steps to get to.

We ate in the monestry then collected our belongings and travelled to Hong Kong Island - via ferry. It was a complete contrast to Ngong Ping - the high buildings and rushed atmosphere was truly significant.

We missed the shuttle bus that went to our accomodation so decided to walk up to it - the next bus was an hour and a half away and we werent prepared to wait with our back packs so decided to walk - big mistake! - We were walking for about an hour - uo hills and up about 1000 winding steps with our heavy backpacks dragging us down - not only that but I was wearing my MBT shoes that were designed to give you the feeling fo walking on sand - not ideal for up hill - thanks mum! It was pissing it down with rain - and when we got to the top the receptionist couldnt believe we

- then we had a few beers!
had trekked all the way up, we were a couple of exhausted drowned rats!

We stayed in another hostel, which was slightly better, dumped our stuff then headed out for a few drinks in Soho - got a little drunk!

Didnt get up tilll late the next day and just went for a roam round our new surroundings - there were many markets and we were hassled by all the locals for our Western money!

Other things we did in Hong Kong that week was eat in the largest floating restaurant - where Bobby ate pigeon, travel up the largest escalator - 800m. Go to Kowloon Island and swim in the most amazing pools. Eat a lot of weird local food - got a bit of a dodgy stomach!

Travel on Hong Kongs equivelent of the London Underground - was soo soo clean! Watched all the lights turn on at 8pm for a light show - was amazing!

- Hong Kong was so amazing the people there were so friendly- everytime we stood lost with our Lonely Planet guid someone always gave us direction, it was such a clean place - shop keepers even washed

the road outside their shops daily and if anyone had a cough/cold they would wear a mask. The pnly transport on the road was taxi's and Buses, not much personal transport, as the transport was so good and they didnt want to pollute - definately worth a visit!

MBT's
Well, it looks as though you are getting enough exercise without having the MBT's to aid, got them out of the box this morning - may wear them myself, had a good nosey - you won't rememeber what you put in that box a year on.... So glad Bobby is with you, it would have been horrid doing all that trekking alone!

Camera
Should have warned you about that old trick with camera's - live and learn, you will definately be more worldly and wiser when you come home as that won't be the last time you are conned. The guy in the restaurant said to wait before you buy anything best to familiarize yourself first but as Ross would say 'shoulda, coulda, woulda' x

Lydia, sounds like you are having a great time. Just popped into see your Mum and Dad having droped Granny and Grandpop off, I have bought your MBT's. Hopefully I will get on better than you did. Granny spent her holiday looking at kichen shops with me and Grandpop did lots in my garden. I think they both had an enjoyable week! My email address for you to send me the link is ap.macpherson@btinternet.com so you can send me the link. Thanks for the post card. Auntie Alison
