Trevi Fountain
really really crowded in this area...we basically just snapped a pic and left so we finally found internet access in roma. but it suck...no usb connection to upload the many many many pictures that we have taken in the last week or so. sorry guys!! hopefully in naples...which is our next city!
we arrived here on sunday. the train was pretty ghetto, but it got us here in one piece...or i guess two counting us separately 😊 our hotel is amazing thanks to mom! it is really close to the train station which equals not having to lug our heavy (and getting heavier) packs too far. Rome is amazing! just as i...tara...remember it being from 5 years ago. we were instantle transported about 2000 years in history the moment that we steped off of the train. we are surrounded by ruins or ancient roma constantly. it is sort of a surreal feeling, being able to just roam around these crumbling building freely.
the first night we just explored the city. we found this amazing piazza called campo dei fiori that transforms into a party every night. we found ourselves in a small bar called the sinking ship where we met a huge group of students who were traveling around italy together...30
The Roman Forum
and Shay looking confused... of them! we ended up having a great time hanging out with them.
the next day we got up bright and early to run around the ancient city. we explored the forum, palatine hill, the colosseum, andm much of the rest of the city. after that we were so exhausted because of the heat that we went back to our hotel and crashed out for a siesta that lasted most of the rest of the afternoon. gotta love europeans and their naptimes!
the next day i took shay all around the city exploring many of the churches and museums and as many free things as we could cram into one day. we ended the day by going shopping...because shopping in rome is a must! we found two amazing dresses for weddings that we will be attending when we get back...yes. thats right. shaylea bought a dress! and a really cute one too! we then found a really great restaurant where we ended up staying until 10:30 chatting with the people working there and the people seated around us. we even managed to get a free bottle of wine out of the waiters...without even trying. they just brought it
Colusseum
possibly spelled wrong...i dont know. to us....because shay "has such a beautiful face" according to a waiter who developed a quick crush on here 😊
this morning i woke up at 6:30 and pryed shay's butt outta bed. we spent today at vatican city....which we probably should not have...because its wednesday and every wednesday the pope comes out into the square to talk to his people...so it was SO ENCREDIBLY PACKED!! and we couldnt get into the basilica today...so we have to go back tomorrow morning. but we did make it into the vatican museums and to the sistine chapel. it was amazing...i think shaylea really appreciated it too. those frescos by rafael...and the sistine chapel by michelangelo are so breathtaking. on the way back to our hotel we went to st. maria della vittoria church to see bernini's piece called st. teresa in ecstacy. the story goes that bernini was originally commissioned to create the piece for st. peter's, but after it was done the pope found it unsuitable because he thought it was too erotic...so he placed it in a church clear across town...where it draws hundreds of visitors a day. its a beautiful piece though...its a shame that its hiding out
in such a tiny tiny chuch. we'll upload a pic of it soon!
tomorrow we are planning on getting up early again...but not as early as today to make our way over to vatican city to get into St. Peter's. then we have the rest of the day free. i'm planning on finding a pair of euro-jeans...because shay already did 😊
so thats rome so far! everything is going great! still no problems and as of tomorrow we will have been traveling for 7 weeks! only 5 more to go. its gone by so quickly. can't believe that we are well over half way through our "epic trek across europe."
so on friday morning we head to naples where we stay for 4 nights to explore pompeii, the island of capri, and the amfali coast...which is supposed to be absolutely beautiful! then we are off to greece on a ferry that i just booked moments ago!
we miss you all!! and we promise we being really safe...haven't let our guards down at all! we hope everything at home is going well and we'll try to keep in touch more...it'll be easier after rome when we will
St. Peters...
the day the pope almost got jumped... be staying in hostels instead of the really nice hotels that mom booked for us 😊
love you guys!!!
