Good conversation was on tap for the morning. "Shadow", CC and I all roused
out of the sack about 7:30AM then covered topics from religion to chemical
warfare. We finally got on the trail at 9:30. After yesterdays big miles and
CC's fall. Man I forgot to put that in my entry, I shall regress for a few
lines.
We had finished in town and were headed for the shelter. While in a darker
section of the forest I stumbled over something small. CC turned and scolded me
like a young boy. She knows if my ankles go bad she will no longer be able to
continue, so she mother's me about watching where and how I step. Not three
minutes later I hear her feet smack something then bounce off a piece of wood in
the trail. In a sort of slow motion she rotated to the right as the pack tried
to pass her as her body slowed and went towards the ground. The top of her pack
went down and the heels of her boots went up. Gravel flew, branches broke,
moaning and gnashing of teeth were heard. With a loud oomph, CC landed in a
tangled mess of pack, trekking poles and plant life. It didn't look good at all.
CC was rubbing her head, her knee and leg had blood on them, but it was in a
small amount and there were no bones protruding through the skin. After further investigation she had a more bruised ego than body. She got up and dusted herself off and we continued on. Today she showed no ill effects from the fall.
We ambled along today at a reasonable rate talking about how far we might go.
The Partnership Shelter is located at the Mt Rogers NRA HQ. It is a real nice
shelter that even has a hot shower. We decided as we are a day and a half ahead
of schedule this is it for today.
We got here at 2PM and spent the afternoon hanging our damp stuff out in the
sun to dry and cleaning our gear and ourselves. Called Micki and made sure all
is ready for us when we get to Damascus. The shuttle and rental car are laid on
and we should be able to get to Matt's graduation without any delays.
Tomorrow we will do 10.6 miles to the next shelter and on Friday it is four
miles into town for our next box.

Town Meeting
He Mom and Dad! glad to see you guys are making such great time and are on the healthy side again! There was a Town Meeting last night about the wind farm. Bill from PPM presented for an hour and refuted some of the "myths" about windfarms. Afterward there was a public comment time. There seems to be a lot of public opposition to the project. I am not opposed but think there needs to be a little more research into if Clayton is the appropriate pace for 68 turbines. I stood up to make comments and mentioned our concern over interference with the HAM emergency equipment you are running and the decibel levels as they changed the 45db at the residence that we reccommended to 50db and I would like to know why, also how much of the power generated will stay in NY. Your lawn is looking good, though I need to weed whack. What is the oil/gas mixture you use? Well, love and miss you both! - mooney
