up and down through laos!
Luke
Probaly the most fun thing ever!! Well.......
done so much recently dont know where to start.. we left thailand on the 21st and headed up into Laos we crossed the river and border into Hau xai which is a really rubbish border town with nothing in! we waited a couple of days befor we could go on the Gibbon Experience!!! went to Pak beng to pass the time ended up helping bout 12 local guys move a 30ft long row boat down a road and into a house! and then got to drink lao lao (home brew lao whisky (which u can set on fire) with them all afternoon trying to learn lao!
the gibbon experience was set up by a french guy a year ago, he did it to help protect the Bokeo nature reserve which is victim to poaching and logging by the villagers in it. to stop them he set up 6 tree houses with huge zip line between them and they helped build and now maintain them. the villagers are your guides and your staff they take youn on jungle treks and show you the animals!! its quite expensive but the money goes towards paying for armed guards to protect
the reserve! hes hoping to build another 6 house and get 2 more tribes involved..
but yeah it was soooo awesome the tree house are 50m up in the air on the biggest trees ! the zip lines are about 400m long and 150m above the floor! the views are the most amazing ive seen! on the first nite there was a huge storm and the tree started swaying and the guides in our house were like "we must go" and they jus left straight away!!! all 8 of us then rushed trying to get our harnesses on and clip on to the line to zip down to the ground for safety, the rain was so hard you couldnt see anything when you were zipping and bella crashed into two trees! it was crazy there isnt anything in the way of safety really except your safety rope! but it was cool and after 20 mins and clearing fallen trees off the zip lines we went back up!
they had an orphaned baby bear! it was so rad but could bite pretty hard !! we didnt see any gibbons... but i nearly walked into the biggest spider ive
ever seen and it was mean and black and yellow! got stung by bees, ants, leeches and fell through so many trees with huge spikes, was pretty dead when we left. we had to do a 4 hour jungle trek one of the hardest things ive done it was litteraly fall down steeeep jungle in mud spikey things and constantly flick leeches (worst things ever) off shoes and legs then try and climb steeper up hills thorugh spike and mud and leeches! but it was pretty cool.
after the gibbons we got the slow boat (very slow took two day to get here) to laung pra bang weve got an even bigger crew now theres like 10 of us rocking out and we had 18 people in a 3 wheeled tuk tuk last nite!! the slow boat goes down the mekong the biggest river here its really big and surounded by valleys and forests !
not sure what our plans our to do next might stay here a few days and go bowling !
anyway cool! hope everyones having fun !
