Burg Eltz
The one pic I got after I bought batteries at the gift shop place. I'm writing this a week after being home, and Europe feels like decades ago! There was really only one weekend in between the last update and coming home, and that was the weekend that Annette, Pierrot and Laurent captured me and took me to the Mosel Valley. They picked me up Friday night, after I sorta packed and started to get ready to come home. We drove to a small village outside of Cochem, and stayed in a holiday apartment. It was really cute, with a wonderful bed and the village had some great food and wine! I ate so well that weekend, let me tell you! We went to Burg Eltz, which was a really cool castle where my camera ran out of batteries. It of course rained on the steep walk down and then back up to the castle and we had a cool German tour. I only understood a little, but Annette helped fill in the gaps! It was a really nice castle and then we went to another village on the Mosel called Bernkastel-Kues where we walked around, got some amazing pizza, ice cream, and cherry strudel. Next we found the "nicest village in Rheinland Pfalz",
Monreal
Laurent in Monreal Monreal and checked that out. The whole next day was dedicated to Cochem with it's impressive castle. We checked out the whole city pretty much via walking and on a little tram tour also in German. Had a little taste of free mosel wine and toured Burg Cochem which had been renovated in the 19th century. It was a really nice weekend with Annette, and the best part was just being able to spend time with them again!
Work was alright the last few weeks, most of our staff had returned and the kids were settling again into the routine. It was sad that the room was finally functioning right before I left, but I was glad to know things were calming down so I didn't fee too bad leaving. The kids made it rough even though they are young and don't really understand goodbye. I had a lot of thanks for our work and just having a great day with the kids made it all the harder to leave. I won't miss some things, but I will miss the kids!
The last weekend, part was spent at Kadu for one last rendezvous, with a lot of the interns coming
the fam
Pierrot, Annette, and Laurent on our little tram tour in Cochem out. The next day G came to visit!! Ria and I went to Neunkirschen with her to finish up some gift shopping and hang out one last time in Germany. It was great to spend time with G before leaving!! But we got home and I had to finish packing to leave with Ryan for Darmstadt for the night. We stayed with her cousin, 6 of us in a two bedroom apartment!! Since Darmstadt is closer to the Frankfurt airport, it was easy to crash there to get me to the airport early Saturday. My flights actually went alright, with only a slight delay in Chicago, go figure. It was weird coming into the states so early, but the jet lag wasn't too bad, just staying up that first day.
Since being home I've been doing my homework... attempting to clean/unpack my room and kind of looking for jobs. I start teaching summer school next week and thats pretty much my summer. I was sad to leave Europe and all my friends there, but I guess we all have to think about growing up at some point, don't we?? I guess this concludes my travelblogging, since I'll be around the
states now, so if you want to know whats up with me, you'll just have to call or email! So, I guess thats it, Ciao!
