Hello everybody,

I am finaly in Beijing and in is my second day. The first day was not too good as the hostel didn't seem to have many people and they were (as far as I can tell) all chinese. I think it must have been mainly popular with country folk visiting the city.

This morning I checked into another hostel called "Templeside house hostel" (http://www.templeside.com/epic.html). I have met some good people from different parts of the world and seems to be sooooooo much better then the last one.

Beleive it or not I have ready been scammed with a money scam on my first day, but luckily it only ammounted to about 7 pounds and I have learned my lesson.
I spent more on my first day that I should have so will need more soon soon.

The temple hostel realy is in the back streets of Beijing down narrow roads where people are out the front of their homes/shops playing games and smoking etc. The taxi drivers don't seem to know how to get anywhere even when I show them on the map where I want to go they have problems and probably would have been quicker to walk.

The push bikes are everywhere and even when the green man is on to cross the road the cyclists will still try and fit in between you, but not just one or two of them, sometimes you turn round and there is a swarm of them so just stand where you are, pray and move when they are past.

All togeather everything is going good and will be visiting more places soon. I have bought a train ticket to Shanghai and spoken to one of my contacts (Jeff) on the telephone who I will meet there; aparantly there are loads more europeans/americans in Shanghai and more people speak English which is bonus lathugh I shoule realy be able yo speak Chinese.

I bought a camera in the airport on the way here and am charging the battery now so will take pictures when it is fully done.

See you soon,
Jamie.
