Well helloooo everybody!!
This is our first entry... so don't expect much!
What a mad day we had yesterday!! Completion day (suposedly at least!) and come 2.30pm we hadn't heard from our solicitors yet. To say we were a bit twitchy is a bit of an understatement.... After a few phone calls it became obvious the money was not going to come through from the bottom of the chain, so panic started to set in.
Not as bad for us as it must have been for our buyers - they had a truck full of plants (no exaggerating, we mean FULL), 8 (yes, that'll be "eight") scared cats in cages and enough boxes to fill the town hall and nowhere to go had we put our foot down and refused to let them in.
But, well, you know us, we're nice people really (plus we did have our own van full of stuff), so after getting our solicitor to draft a "key undertaking" we decided to go ahead and move out. For those of you not in the know, this basically meant they could move in whilst the house was still legally ours, with the (legal) promise that we would get our money eventually, plus interest for every day of delay.
And off to Bolton we went to fill Mark's parents' loft and garage with boxes and promising ourselves that if we ever buy another house we will never, EVER (cross my heart and hope to die), move out again. For those of you who've done it before, we're sure you'll sympathise!!
So what are we up to now? Sitting in the library writing this of course!!! (sorry, bad joke, slap on the hand). Firstly, trying to get used to the idea that we are unemployed and homeless. Secondly, trying to figure out what to do next.
The initial plan is to spend a few days here and there saying goodbye to family and long-lost friends (so if you're one of those, watch out, we're coming your way!!). Or to put it differently, looking for free accommodation and hot dinners!!! So if you want to volunteer to host one of these evenings, please drop us an email or send us an sms (details will be in the email you will have received with a link to this blog!). If you DON'T want to volunteer, we suggest you book a holiday now! :-p
Then we'll go down to sunny Spain and repeat the exercise with Maria's family and friends (poor souls, most of them don't know yet!).
In between all this socialising we'll hopefully find some time to do some proper planning and work out where we're going first, but the initial plan is to head out to South America and take it from there.
So tighten your seat belts and get ready for take-off.... we'll be entertaining you with (hopefully) more exciting stories soon!!
Lots of love
