Before the RaceBefore the RaceBefore the Race

It was still dark when we got up!!!
Well a year has ticked by since the last "City to Casino" run that I did with Ivor. Ivor having lost his enthusiasm somewhat for running since the "Run to the G" last year, didn't come with me - though he did get up at 7am to drive me to meet Maria, with whom I was running it this year. Needless to say, we were 25 minutes early at the start! The weather was reasonable for the end of Autumn - and we were not too freezing at the start line. Runs in Tas are never over-crowded but there was a good turn-out. Maria and I rapidly scanned the crowds for fatter-looking/less fit people - but there were not many!!
At the end of this race we had both completed 47 km (just short of 30 miles!) worth of running this week - and yesterday we did 19 km (about 12 miles) - so we didn't think that we would be able to get a good time today. Though we have been running long distances, we have not been going fast!
Nevertheless - we gave it a go - and GPS on wrist we tried to maintain a good pace.

Not the whole course but gives you a gist of the height climb!!!!!!The course was quite hilly and I was a little concerned on the big slog up the first hill that we came across. We made up for it on the downs!!! Neither of us being very competitive and usually very chatty on our runs - we were women possessed in this race!!!- we kept checking the pace and ran so bloody fast, at times, I thought I was going to pass out. Maria spotted a woman in front and said "I'm trying to keep up with her!!" - the woman she had spotted was like someone from an "iron-woman" competition !! A couple of times I told Maria to run ahead, but like me, she's a loyal runner and won't leave her partner behind - egging me on-unlike some people I have run with in the past! (though to be fair, I wouldn't have minded her running off!!)
56 minutes (and less than that really as we had started near the back of the running field and took a couple of minutes to get over the start line - there were no chips used on this run!!) and 11km later we made it!! I had knocked two minutes off last year's time with Ivor. Not bad considering that we ran 19km yesterday.
I got home quite chuffed - comparing notes with Maria- and found Ivor fast asleep in bed!!!
