Out on the Town
Lisa and I at Espionage Wow, here we are in Edinburgh, Scotland...on our fourth day of travel....and i'm FINALLY posting a blog. The internet was a bit too pricey at the hostel, so lisa and i have finally made it to the edinburgh library, where it's free!
5/15-5/16 London
Lisa and I spent our first two days in the amazing and eventful yet extremely expensive city of London. We arrived around 10am from the states, by the time we made it through baggage claim and customs, we didn't arrive to our hostel till 1230ish. We stayed in a little hostel known as the Torquay House on the outskirts of Bayswater. It was difficult to find, but we managed with the help of a few strangers. We decided to walk around and get lunch and see where to head from there....that's pretty much all we did that day...we were so tired and jet lagged we ended up napping for 3 hours and then heading to bed around 9 or so. Finally the next day we managed to overcome the jet lag somewhat and tour London. We made our way first to the tower bridge, then big ben/houses of parliament, next was the changing of
Museum
Having fun in the museum....can´t remember which museum though the guards at buckingham palace (i was soooo excited to see this, as i wasn't able to in my previous trip to london). We then had lunch in piccadilly circus (which, in my view, is the 'times square' of london)...sadly, we ate at mcdonald's...damn americans....ahaha. well, england isn't exactly known for it's cuisine, and we were starving, so what the heck....however, the mcdonald's in england are very pristine....even the staff dress well...which is completly opposite of our sloppy dressed fast food workers. we ended the day at kensington palace, previously home to princess di, before heading back to the hostel, picking up our luggage, then heading to the airport. ahhh, of the five airports in london, we definitely picked the wrong one to get to scotland.....it cost £15.50 to get to stansted airport ...which by the way, is like $31...this did not fit into our budget.
One more thought: funniest part about london: while i was taking a shower in the morning, lisa was in our hostel room by herself with our two other dormmates...a portuguese man and a young guy from south africa......you'll have to ask lisa all about it...but the guy from south africa wasn't shy about
Monument
Monument in Edinburgh at Calton Hill jerkin' his gerkin....if you get what i'm saying....ahahhaha.
5/16-5/18
Anyways, here we are in scotland, we arrived wednesday evening. We have no room in our budget for any excursions (like going inside the edinburgh castle, day tours outside the city, etc.) however, we're truly enjoying the experience. Edinburgh is an extremely hilly city, so we're getting great amounts of exercise. there are some truly captivating views of the city, which i hope to portray to you...if i can ever figure out how to get my pics on this website...my camera is stupid and old...ahhhh. Today lisa and i went on a hike to the salisbury scags on the outskirts of the city, let's just say my ass is feelin' it...haha. we also stopped by the palace fo holyroodhouse, the queen's residence in scotland. there is some huge event going on there this weekend, we have not a clue as to what it is, but we captured a few pictures of the scottish military and band all dressed in their kilts....we even caught a glimpse of some bums...hahaha, it was soooo windy today, the kilts were flyin' up....let's just say some of those scottish men go commando....that brings us
Museum
it´s dolly the sheep! to now, sorry about all the rambling.....lisa and i will probably do some more walking around the city this evening before we make dinner at the hostel (groceries are soooo much cheaper than eating out).
Leave some comments people! i miss you all! I'll probably be posting another blog when we head to ireland.....which will definitely be more exciting than this.....sorry guys, the United Kingdom is sooo expensive we basically only have money for food and sleep......ireland will bring better stories....till then, Laura.
