Tallinn - Estonia
Outside walls of old town. Tallinn - Estonia , the city of all things old, trendy & tourists.
We arrived in Tallinn, Estonia after travelling across the Baltic Sea from Finland (Evonne - I didn't see any whales 😞 ). Our first feeling of Tallinn was that we were moving further away from home. Once we moved away from the docks into the old town, we were pleasently surprised by how well preserved the medieval city is (even if it was full of tourists, like us).
We arrived at our guest house (located in the old town) a bit tired from our nights of drinking in Finland, and although the room was small (and once again two single beds), it was nice. Far cry from some of the hostels we had been staying at. Our first order was a late lunch at the Olde Hansa in the middle of the old town, a medieval style themed restaurant that was quite funny. I had the game (reindeer, elk and wild boar) sausages with some interesting ways to dish vegtables while Eve had the mushroom soup (both very nice) - we ended up back here later that evening for some interestingly flavoured herb beers. We followed

Cheers!that up with a walk through part the old town and explored some of the nooks and crannies.
We once again hits the bars that evening as Tallinn is fast becoming THE destination for bars and clubbing in Eastern Europe. We started off at the Austrian themed Beer House (yes, everything appears to be themed in some way) and drank from some very large beer steins (see pic). As we continued our bar hop from Helsinki to Tallinn, our next bar was completely white. We guessed this bars theme was white. White chairs, couches, floor, bar, ceiling and of course, Mac computers. They were also running old re-runs of Donald the Duck cartoons as any new, cool bar would.
We got chatting to some young Tallinners at the next bar who became very excited when they worked out we are Australians. Apparently, Home and Away screens in Tallinn and they love it. They told us it was their dream to travel to Australia and go to Summer Bay. We gave them our email in the off chance and then ended up at one of biggest nightclubs in Tallinn, called Hollywood. Unfortunately, Wednesday night is not

Tallinn - Estonia
Drinking the traditional herbal beeer in a medieval pub.in Tallinn and we missed out a bit. We had a few more drinks, danced a bit (as only one can we you're anonymous) and headed back to the guest house.
The next day was a late rise, with hangovers. It was difficult to get started but we eventually did by late afternoon (the sun sets very late) and saw the remaining sites of Tallinn. It's really difficlut to describe the sights from the viewing tower above the old town or Toompea which is the upper town inside the defensive wall. It really is quite spectacular. All in all, thumbs up. We can see why Tallinn is becoming so popular.
Our last date for the day was to get to the bus station by 11pm for our overnight bus trip into our biggest challenge and greatest destination, Russia.
