Today we woke up earlyish after a very hot night in our erm... 'lovely' hostel... (it's not that bad really. The view out of the window on to the red light district is really very interesting!!) We caught the Star Ferry over to Hong Kong Island, where we got a tram over to the bottom of Victoria Peak. We then caught another tram that climbed the very steep mountain. The view from the top was amazing! Although there was quite a lot of smog so the photos didn't turn out quite as well as we'd hoped. There was a whole complex up there and we had lunch in a lovely authentic chinese noodle house, so we got to put our chopsticks into good use!!

We spent a good couple of hours up there before returning down to have a stroll around Hong Kong Park - very beautiful with water features everywhere. We saw a SARS memorial plaque dedicated to the doctors who tried to put a stop to the disease in 2003. There are still plenty of Chinese people walking around with masks on though.

As we walked through the streets we noticed that all the grubby stairwells and pavements were lined with hundreds of women sitting on cardboard boxes, playing cards/ reading/ eating/ etc all with bare feet. There were no men about - it seemed like quite a social event! Really not sure what it was all about? Anyone have any clues?

In the evening we took the Star Ferry around the islands on a cruise as we watched the 'Symphony of Lights' a multimedia event with lazers and music accross the whole bay. The view accross to Hong Kong Island is just like a postcard - absolutely stunning packed with glittering lights. It's amazing standing there at night with a warm breeze wafting over you!

We are really having a great time and will try to upload pics as soon as we can. Bean's already filled a whole memory card!!

Tomorrow we head to Lantau. More updates later!! xxxxx

Sunday?
This was a Sunday wasn't it? The women are all Philipina's working in HK as maids and Sunday is their only day off so they get together and hang out!
