While staying in Milwaukee, we caught a bus to Chicago (which was 1.5hrs away) for a two day trip. We used MegaBus for the first time and got $10 return tickets!! Not bad at all!
The first day in Chicago we had absoultely beautiful weather! It would've been in the mid 20's and we were in t-shirts. The second day...got down to 4 degrees celcuis and I wasn't really dressed for the occassion!! Can't believe it can go from how it did on the Tuesday, to how cold the next day! (Um...actually what am I talking about - I live in Melbourne!!)
Anyway...Chicago is a really cool city. The buildings are really impressive to look at with both old and new architecture, with Lake Michigan as a backdrop to the city and the Chicago River which runs through the city as well.
First day we had a look at the Sears Tower, which yes, is very tall!! But on Paul's recommendation we went up to the observatory on top of the John Hancock Centre. The views from up there were amazing and we were lucky enough to have an absolutely gorgeous day to do it, with really
clear views for miles.
We then walked back down the Magnificent Mile which is full of all the designer shops etc. and had a look in Millenium Park which has heaps of cool statues, a big outdoor theatre, a skate rink in the winter, and a water feature which has some images of people's faces moving at either end...weird!! Oops, I didn't get a photo of that!
We then went and had a look at Navy Pier. A nice little pier where they have restaurants, theatres, shops and where all the cruise ships leave from. It also gave you a really nice view back to the city.
That night we went to the famous 'Buddy Guys Legends' blues bar a few blocks away from where we were staying. I forget the name of the band that was playing, but they were really good, and it's such a fun atmosphere in one of those bars. They had all these other blues artists in the pub, and on the night we were there, Buddy Guy himself was there too...but we didn't see him. Anyway, all these artists just got up and had a jam with the band, and every
single on of them was 'a blues legend!!' Haha!! They really were amazing though.
The next day was completely miserable weather, but we had talked about going on an architecural river cruise, so damn it, we were going to do it! Oops...bit of a mistake! First thing was that we had an entire field trip of about Grade 2's on the boat and they were out of control...so noisy and were just running around the boat. They were the first on the boat and so got all the inside seats, but then when they wanted to sit outside, they left their lunch on the seats and they were so noisy we couldn't hear what the tour guide was even saying. Bloody little shits...we kinda wanted to push them into the water which was a chilly 0 degrees celcius!! It was so cold and unfortunately from the lake, we could barely see above the second floor of most of the buildings, let alone the top of the Sears or anything as there was so much fog! But the river part was a little better as we were closer to the buildings. Oh well...it's all an experience hey?! Nah, it was
still interesting though, even in the cold.
After the boat trip we went and looked at a famous fountain they have on Lake Michigan called Buckingham Fountain, but they don't actually have any water in it until May - slightly dissapointing...a water fountain isn't quite the same without the water!! Haha! Then we walked through another park area which took us to Soldier Field where the Chicago Bears NFL team play. It was freezing and so we took a couple of snaps and then legged it to Macy's where I wanted to buy a scarf. Unfortunately though, they didn't have any winter scarves left as it was SUPPOSED to be spring - unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating though!!
So that was basically our trip to Chicago. Short and sweet, but we probably saw what we needed to. I'd go back to Chicago, but I'd look at a weather forecast a little more carefully before I booked the dates I think, or pack a jumper!! 😊

GUys, noticed the band as Buddy Guy. Do you realise he's a legend. Have his CDs. Looks like you're having a great time. Corey and Jared got their T's. Great choice guys and top fit. Cheers
