hmmmm
well hello again

I know I know its been awhile and I promised to write more.... but well I suck😊

So where are we ahhhh Indonesia I had quite a time there this was defiantly the most unique culture I'd seen and I feel by now that's a real statement. After a prolonged stay in Bali Isl. Matt, Yulianna, And I set off for the isl. Of Sulawesi this is an odd shaped isl. knid of north central Indo where culture id strong and interesting we start off in the second largest city on the isl. Makassar. There we spent countless hours trying to rent a moto for transport with everyone laughing in our face or calling us crazy. now in S. E. Asia motorbikes are the most common form of travel and we had been renting motos everywhere we had been do this was an odd feeling of rejection. After about three days of this coming close and failing every time we got fed up and bussed it north to start seeing some things. Here we enter Toraja...... toraja is the most well culturally different place id been in awhile. We heard about the funerals here which

never thought I would but here i am at cock fight in Sulawesi isl
were suppose to be interesting to attend. One of the customs when you visit is to bring gifts to the family and all of us love gifts so we wanted to do something really cool. So it's decided were off pig shopping, yep pig's we wanted to make an impression so went to the open livestock market passed the Buffalo's, cow's, and chickens over for the pigs. Well after some serious bargaining and already being late for the funeral our daring idea was put to rest in place.... Cigarettes, sugar, coffee and beattlenut. personally i was very sad cause buying a pig and carrying it to a funeral had become a wondrous idea for me. But none the less we make our way to our event.

Okay now it's time for you to take everything you know about a funeral and toss it out the window. cause in north America we'd call this a party slash redneck Olympic games event. So we'll start with dome back round, the deceased was a affluent Man in the area. He's also been dead four years in addition still living with the family for those years. The number of people attending the funeral

the old guy showed me this one
was told to us to be a million people but we think there's some zero's misplaced there. The whole event was for seven days and had a family reunion kind of feel with large u shaped seating construction. We had full speaker and Pa system set up, there are some fellows casually slicing pigs and goats by the throat and placing them on the open fire skin. fur and all scraping the skin off with a stick as it cooks. then there's the bull fights these huge water buffaloes are strolled out by the family placed in front of one another to fight by ramming each other head to head see the video for more. Well as i get set to watch the fights there's two distinct sitting positions there's where most people go which is inside the hut to watch with dome slight form of safety. And where I must go which id out front close to the action. The first fight commences and wouldn't you know it both the bulls head right for me. So quickly and well acrobatically i lunge on the wall of the hut to get the heck out of the way of these giant

creatures they thankfully miss me as one of them lost hid footing and slides head first right into where i had been standing. all is well and i have a free rush of adrenaline that last for most of the day following. Then after the fights we get to experience more slaughtering and well I didn't think that a bull could be killed and quartered in ten minutes but I was wrong.what a day indeed we thought as we head home.

then onto the next town i head, solo this time as Matt and Yulliana head to Borneo and I just can't leave Sulawesi. I make it to this quiet town on a lake with beautiful place. i meet this old man who i had dinner with he was an ugly old fellow but nice and one of the few people who speak any English in the town. he tells me how in his village theres a sort of Thanksgiving that's had after all the rice harvest had been cut. i tell him i plan to drive a moto around the lake and he asks if I can take him with me as he hasn't been to his village in four years and hes too old to drive a moto there. i don't mind and we set off the following day. We make it about three hours into a seven hour ride and a stop at a beautiful spot for a photo as i make to turn the bike off for picture time i notice a problem. There's no key..... Along the bumpy road somewhere on the three hour drive the key well just falls out. so here we are no key, no people, and not a ton of petrol left in the tank. As these "good" Samaritans stop to give us some help but all the manage to do id TURN THE BIKE OFF and now we really have some trouble. Well we got lucky some shifty type guy came by looking very shady and i guess he felt sorry for the old Man and he hot wired our bike as to get to the next town. we get there and a mechanic reluctantly fixed us a toggle switch for the ignition after asking us several times did we just steal this bike?? after that we head for some lunch somehow ending up at a family reunion where everyone lovingly gawk's at me eatin my food then off to the village. Well on the way there the unthinkable happens.... yep that thing that happens to almost everyone at least once in Asia and alot to some, Matt can you guess it??? A spill.. yep turning a corner and theres a huge patch of mud i cant avoid so it sends us crashing to the road bike in one direction us in another. Luckily were fine I have a slight Road rash on the leg and the old man's Fine..THANK GOD!! and we pick up the bike have a laugh (we really laughed) and went to the village for his thanksgiving.

Lets see what else has happened....oh yeah...

I'll make these shorter. Take a little boat rip to a remote isl. where there's a natural gas pocket on the beach. So you take a stick and poke a hole in the ground then put a flame to it and it combustes into fire. Pretty cool i thought so I hung out there for about two hours. I chartered a boat do it was me the guesthouse owner and the captain of the boat. well in all the
beached boatbeached boatbeached boat

sleeping on the isl not by choice
fire fun we had the brilliant captain doesn't pay attention to the boat as the tide goes down and you guessed it. Instantly stranded the tide is down, the boat is beached, and both the guys are looking at me just waiting for me to blow up. But instead me being me i think its funny and we just have to spend the night on the beach waiting for the tide to come back up.

Then the driver guy. About six Indonesian locals and me are taking a mini bus to luwuk. Were doing the overnight type bus and about two a.m. in the morning our driver stops in the middle of the road turns off the bus climbs underneath and goes to sleep😊 I get out were in the middle of farmland and somehow i spot this TV set turned on way sown the road. out of board um I go to investigate some locals are watching soccer live at two A.M. so i join the for an hour. Our driver's still asleep the soccer's done so i figure if you cant beat them join them and take a nap in the road with him. We all get

up and start off again and I'll be danged if about two hours later he doesn't stop and do the same thing again. Now Sulawesi culture for the most part is passive all the locals are talking and I gather that they have a airplane to catch in two hours and were two hours from the airport so they have no time to waste. They are afraid to ask the driver to go so feeling sorry a bit for them I go wake em up to his surprise and tell him to get himself together. We head off but they still miss there flight but I'm the hero anyhow for the rest of the ride receiving free food and smiles all the way there.

That's all I have for now

There's more but I'm sick of writing
