Longboat
As nice these longboats are, they do destroy the corals undernead with their deep propellas. I am in Thailand! The country I have heard so many nice stories about making me keen to form my own opinion and experiences. The first point of destination is Krabi, which I reached after a long bus ride and an empty stomach.
Krabi This not very inviting city due to its dirty buidlings, little structure and ugly streets, however serves as a great hob. Firstly as it is located on the water, from where boats to the Phi Phi islands and other small islands part from and secondly as it offers a great location to explore the country side also.
Thus I took a room for a few nights to explore the area. The Cha Guesthouse was as usual a family business with all family members, from crying babies to the old grandma smiling without teeth, living on the premises. The house included a restaurant and internet cafe at the same time and lead in the back yard through star fruit trees to several houses for tourists. It was a nice combination of everything.
In Krabi itself, I did only by admin work or shopping as I said it is not the best town. However I
Krabi Roads
See what impressive views along my road laid. Going on a scooter made now even more fun. have to say that the food was nice. Two big evening markets offered food on the go or stalls to sit down. Here I tried a very! I mean very spicy green curry and a nice fried shrimp noodle dish. Oh and not to forget, the banana and chocolate pancakes and fresh fruit.... Heaven.
What Tham Temple One day I decided to take out a motorbike to visit the local villages, limestone caves and temples. It has all turned out different as it was supposed to - which happens every day over here. First I took the wrong road, which lead me through a wonderful landscape of villages with people laying on bamboo 'sofas' (little open huts close to the street, in front of their houses, where people seem to lay around the whole day), little food stalls and lots of scattered caves, that I visited. Driving past the locals I often got kids screaming a hello or sawathi kha and hand waves.
Finally heading to the temple of choice I arrived at a enourmeous mountain, that, as I found out later, I had to climb. As it is supposed to be I had drizzle rain
Wheel of reincarnation
After 1,245 steps this is one seight I got the wheel of reincarnation, meaning that you had a previous life and will be reborn (Buddhism) the whole morning, but as I am to start climbing up the 1, 270 step high temple the sun smiles with its bright and hot gleam at me. I am not lying when I am saying that I have never ever sweated like this before. I actually met people giving up the walk up the uneven and high stone stair plates, as their feet were shaking or the height was too frightening.
Once arrived at the top, the temple was seight for itself, added with beautiful views around Krabi, the ocean on one side and on the other the jungle and hills.
When I finally, after 2 hours, reached the ground it started again chucking down with rain. What an irony. This is were I met a bunch of English, who invited me to join their tour to the hot springs and crystall lagoon. I happily agreed to drive in their car as these attractions were very far away and the rain just stopped an hour later.
Climbing Another exciting experienced that I booked was a half day climbing course on the very beautiful and challenging limestone cliffs around the Phi Phi Islands.
As you can see
Mountain top view
Another impressive view with coming clouds that poured down heavily after my save arrival at the bottom of the temple steep walk. on the pictures I went against my scare of heights and climed 25m high, to adore an astonishing view over the ocean and island rocks. A 'monkey man', we called him like that because he also climbed trees like a monkey, who is actually a professional climber famous in Thailand showed us tricks and held us on the rope whenever we slipped or fell. This did not happen with me luckely. I suppose the travelling made me a lot stronger in mind and body, so that I found it quiet easy to climb the rocks.
I definetely recommend climbing these rocks!
Phi Phi Islands Another day trip I booked from Krabi was around the Phi Phi Islands, including the most beautiful beaches of several islands, such as the 'The Beach' beach, were the movie was filmed. We went snorkeling, sun bathing and just relaxing on a speed boad filled with mouthwatering fresh pineapples and other fruit.
Now it was time to head further north. To the west coast towards Ko Samui, the first Thai island I am going to stay on. Another long bus journey ahead....and sunbaking 😊
