Chicago at Grid LockChicago at Grid LockChicago at Grid Lock

Sadly we didn't have time built into the trip to see a lot of Chicago, but I got a good pic when we were stuck in traffic!
At long last we are back home again. We ended our road trip, right where it started, in the garage! No road was travelled twice... one big loop through five provinces and ten states.

We spent our last two days driving from Madison Wisconsin to Yale Michigan and then on to Home.

We got a good start out of Madison, thinking that hitting Chicago around noon would be good for traffic. I guess there is no good time to hit Chicago as there are far too many people there with cars. Between the usual congestion and the summer construction season it took awhile to get through. The I-90 goes straight through so when you're stuck in traffic, at least you've got plenty to look around at. I think next time, I'll fly though and avoid the whole driving thing.

We spent our last night on the road with friends in Yale Michigan, a small community across the border from Sarnia. We got there just in time for their Bologna Festival. Yup, Yale is famous for its' bologna, and they're some proud of it. They had fireworks and everything. We were wishing that we could have stayed longer to

Again another missed festival while on our road trip... this is one I wouldn't mind going back to see again some time.
see what really happens at a Bologna Festival. I suspect it is pretty much the same thing that happens at all good country fairs. My kind of fun.

We were up early and back on the road for our last leg of the road trip. Crossing the border was the easiest I've ever had. No one else was up and travelling at the hour we chose to go. Back into Ontario and feeling great. A quick stop in Toronto to Karen and the kids and we were fed and watered and ready for the end of the trip!

Lots of you have questions about the stats of the trip... so here they are:

22 days on the road (14 of them with lots and lots of driving)
10,645 kilometers travelled
24 fill ups for gas
6 time zone changes
5 Provinces and 10 States
4 Great Lakes
1 Sea
4 Ferry rides
3 hours of rain... No kidding...
NO speeding tickets

Wildlife:
1 moose
1 bear... although it was quite far away on the shore of a stream
1 bald headed eagle
many deer... some off on the side, some up close and personal
3 antelope

We took pictures of a lot of road signs while we were away, and this one is our favorite!

1 wolf
lots of Elk
bats in Victoria

Would we do it again... Absolutely!
