michelle manireToday is Feast of the Laborers (Labor Day) here in Europe. Almost everything's closed except for Cathedrals. We left Venice this morning, first by boat, then by train, then by car to arrive at the Bernini Palace Hotel in Florence. We had a short overview of the city with our new Tour Guide, Tonya.

May we please have some help with our luggage?
We have a BAD reputation for having WAY too much luggage, apparently. The Italians are NOT HAPPY AT ALL ABOUT THIS. We just keep handing the Porters Euros as they curse in Italian. Grazie, grazie, blah, blah, blah.

We're going on a train! We're going on a train! Weeeeeeeee!
FLORENCE HERE WE COME!

Melinda reads a book on every destination before we get there.
She also thinks she'll be proficient in the Italian language by the end of the trip.

...and enjoys forcing facts on innocent people
"Excuse me Sir, did you know there's no Starbucks in Italy?"

Dr. Abbas picked us up at the Florence train station...
...in a suit and tie. Another unhappy Italian having to deal with our enormous amount of luggage. but look how pretty our luggage is. very italy, very dramatic.
