After the briefest of stays in Noosa we headed further north to Rainbow Beach. We were mainly heading to Rainbow Beach as it is a major starting point for trips to Fraser Island. We arrived quite late in the evening at Dingo's hostel. After checking in we headed to find some grub but most of the town had shut up. Having a nose for these types of things we eventually found a pizzeria on the far side of the village. After that we met our roommates, most of whom appeared to be working in the hostel in one job or another.

The following day we headed down to Rainbow's beautiful beach. This was the first place we have been in Australia that we could swim in the ocean without fear of jellyfish (So just the sharks to worry about then). After a lazy afternoon at the beach we headed back to the hostel.

We had already booked our Fraser Island trip so we had to attend a kind of information meeting and get divided into teams. The guy conducting the meeting was hilarious and as we learned later a bit of a legend on the East coast of Australia.

Only in Australia could a grown man get away with finishing his sentences with phrases like "Good Times" while throwing his thumbs in the air and "Attitude Gratitude" (Incidentally both would become catchphrases of the Fraser trip).

Luke filled us in on all the details of the trip and we were then divided into groups of 11. Our group contained Jimmy from Liverpool (A Scouser true and true) and Mel his girlfriend from Manchester. We had no less than 3 Chris's all from Manchester and Caroline one of their girlfriends. To add a bit of international flair and to keep the pats and Brits in check we had Roman the crazy Swiss German and Rebecca and Emily from Canada.

After the introductions, we compiled the all important drinks list (Three days on a desert island is a long time) We had a bite to eat and then bumped into the two Dublin girls from Noosa and the Swedish couple and ended up playing cards (again) for the evening.

Next Stop Fraser Island...
