At last we have arrived in the city that is to be our 'home away from home' for the next few years. On first impressions, Leeds seem big and busy and I must confess I felt abit overwhelmed at the size of the place. But having now had abit of time to orientate and get used to the feel of the place, its actually revealling itself to be a colourful and vibrant city. Large enough to have everything one could need, but small enough to get to know your way quite quickly and to still have a kinda cosy feel. In some ways the city itself is not unlike Newcastle-it's roots are industrial and the strong history of industry is ever present in the city-scape. But it has a fantastic business district with awesome shopping to be had. Our brief strolls in the evening also suggest there's a thriving nightlife and a big dining culture too, but we're yet to explore that for ourselves.
We have at last found an apartment after a very hectic search. We're now living in the wharf area that reminds me abit of how Honeysuckle was 2-3years ago before it all started to take off down there. Right near us there is a heap of development going on at a site called Clarence Dock which is soon to house a brand new casino, bars, restaurants and boutique style shopping. This is all opening in the next 6-9months and I expect it will be a lively place to hang out once its all up and happening. And even better, it will be right on our doorstep!
Our apartment itself is in a brand new building so we feel abit spoilt at getting to be the first ones to live in this flat. Its a one bed number so its small but all very modern and posh...Its going to be such a novelty for us! Right now, we are one of two sets of people in the whole building so its very quiet. Still, its very lovely to have a place to call home and so far, Leeds looks like it will be a hit with us both.
