Hi everyone,

Well my first try at an "Amazing Race" type gambit did not pay off... unless all of the other teams had same difficulty, I may be in last place... 😊

Even though it is Saturday here (which is like our Sunday), and as well it is New Year's Day, and the airport at Kathmandhu even though listed as an "international" is nothing close to being anything conventional...
I thought I would give it a shot at getting out of here today even though I had no ticket on any flight...

Tried to get on the one daily flight this afternoon on Thai Airways to Bangkok -- but it was full... then tried to get onto an Indian Airlines to Calcutta, with a connecting flight later tonight into Thailand...

I came sooooo close to getting on flight at last minute, had lots of people trying to help me make it happen -- but alas, I was at the mercy of the money changers...!

They would not let me buy ticket with credit card or Rupees -- would only take US cash (only needed $123) -- can only get Rupee from ATM and the little bank kiosk in the airport would not sell me any US cash!! Other banks in Kath closed cause it is Saturday / holiday...

Oh well, back at the Blue Horizon for another nite -- could be worse places to be stuck -- still lots of festivities down here being N Y Day
and all... and will still be 1 day ahead of itinerary if I get to Bankok in the next day...

A special hello to my "Everest Ascent Team" partners, Phil and Nick, who made my trip just a little more special and a lot more bearable due to their positive energy, wit, humour, and good companionship -- hope to see you in Indonesia somewhere down the road, in another year, on another adventure... I am sure none of us will ever forget that godforsaken night in Gorek "Sh*t" !!! Please give me shout if you are ever out on west coast of Canada...

And last but certainly not least -- best wishes and speedy recovery Lorraine -- lots of people sending you out good healing vibes, thoughts, and prayers... and Scott and Sean, remember that Daddy loves you lots, and misses you lots, and can't wait to get home with some big hugs, stories, pictures, and gifts...

Hopefully, next blog will be from somewhere east of here 😊

Love,

Cam
