Happy New Year everyone!!

This is as bizarre as it gets... who would know that Friday the 13th of April would be new year's eve in Nepal?!

I am sitting in a street side Cafe above the main drag in the tourist area having a cheese burger, fries, and Pepsi -- listening to Bruce Cockburn on my sony music player, to drown out the cacophony of sounds... music, honking horns, police whistles, motorcycle exhaust pipes, etc...

The last evening I was here was Sat nite 2 weeks ago, and I thought it was pretty busy then... well, depends on who you talk to there is between 2 to 3 million people in the surrounding area -- I think they are all trying to get here at once!!

I seem to have a strange habit of arriving in interesting places on special occasions...

Terry and I once pulled into Reno on Christmas Eve and then spent New Years Eve in Las Vegas... once, Wade and I drove into downtown San Francisco on Halloween night in an old '64 Merc van -- there were people driving around in the back of pickup trucks throwing eggs at police cars?! We quickly drove to the top of a 10 storey parkade and camped for the nite --after that we called it San Fran "Freako"...

A few years ago I arrived into Guadalajara, Mexico on Valentines Day (which it turns out is a really big deal in some Latin countries... kids dressed up in coustumes, parades, and all sorts of neat stuff), and it also coincided with special celebrations of the city's 400 something year anniversary -- and they were hosting the President of Mexico -- that was quite a happening.... and earlier on this trip I dropped into Montreal on the nite of the Quebec election!

Anyhow, got off on a bit of a rant there 😊

Back to Kathmandu -- I have been shooting a lot of video clips of the street scene here -- it is absolutely incredible -- every sort of moving vehicular contraption you could imagine... bicycles, rickshaws, motorcycles of all size and description, cars, trucks, buses and people all sharing the same street (and sidewalks!)...

It is absolutely amazing that with all the hustle and bustle, in the couple of days that I have spent here I have not seen any contact between any of the above (lots of close calls!)...

Well it is always a nice respite from things to duck into a cybernet cafe and update my travelblog... hope you are all doing well -- bye for now, and Happy New Year from Nepal!
