Hi everyone,

I am back down to Lukla where they have the short runway off the edge of the cliff.. I am hoping to get a flight back to Kathmandhu tomorrow -- but sometimes you can't get out the same day...

We got here a couple of days ahead of schedule -- the plan was for 8 days into Base Camp, and then 6 days back out... but both me and the guide were anxious to get back to civilization, so we put in a couple of double legs on the trek coming down...

My best estimates ( with lots of time to calculate on the trail 😊 are that in the last 12 days I have covered 200 kms, ascending about 10,000 feet in elevation, but with all the ups and downs probably changed about 25,000 feet of altitude up and down -- and unless my calculation is out probably took about 1 million steps!!

I have a big blister on right heel, and some raw toes on the left -- legs are quite sore and tired... but it was worth all the hard work and sacrifice... I have a lot of stories to tell and video clips and pictures...

Am hoping to fly out of Kathmandu on Thursday to Bangkok, and then tour around Cambodia and Laos for about a week, before flying out of Thailand for some rest in Sydney Australia for 3 or 4 days... and then fly directly to Peru to do the Inca Trail through the Sacred Valley of Ruins, and up to Machu Picchu...

Anyhow, hope you are all doing well, and take care,

Cam

Query
Hi Cameron, Hey can you answer me a query. I am independent and plan to travel to Lukla then trek to Base Camp. I am being told for safety and socially purposes I should go with a tour or group. yet I am also told that I can arrive in lukla, hire a sherpa and or guide for AU$20 per day and save over AU$1800 by doing my own thing.....and have just as good a time.
