Merchant City
An upcoming trendy area in Glasgow, lots of pubs and clubs. We packed our bags and boarded a plane - destination, GLASGOW. It was exciting to be finally on the way home. We flew from Vancouver to London Heathrow and from there up to Glasgow. Of course, it wouldn't be Heathrow without the 45 minutes standing in line to get through security from one terminal to another. Or being bundled along with the hordes as the huge mass of people throng from one part of the airport to the other. Joyful!!! We eventually made it though and landed on Scottish soil. After speaking with my Aunt Lesley we discovered that my brother Alan and friend Kat were just about to arrive and soon I saw them on the escalator. Whoopeeee, we jumped in a taxi and made our way to my Gran's house.
There we had hugs and kisses with Gran and Auntie, a wee chat and cup of tea. After that, it was a trip into Johnstone to go to the pub. We enjoyed a drink and then stopped at Sandro's fish and chip shop. This was the chippie that Alan and I visited as nippers and it was always a treat on a Friday night after swimming. The wee

On the way home we stopped at my cousin's new abode. Steve and Andrew are sharing a flat with another friend and we went for a wee look see. My jetlag kicked in fairly quickly though and I knew that it was bedtime when I started falling asleep on my feet!!!
We rose the next day and decided to go up to Glasgow. A whole troop of us descended on the train station and sat and chattered all the way there. We wandered around the shops, drank coffee and soaked up the general hundrum of Sunday shoppers. When we got hungry we walked to an area called Merchant City which is becoming a trendy area of Glasgow - full of pubs and restaurants. It's slowly being re-generated - a five year grant programme is available to property owners for high quality repair, restoration and refurbishment of buildings and public realm. We went to Blackfriar's which is an old haunt of Alan's and one that we've visited on a few ocassions. We made it

The next day Alan and Kat left for England - after a wee bit of shopping of course. My very good friend Hilary then came round to pick us up. We spent the night with Hilary. Mike cooked a great Thai curry and we sampled a few beverages - including pink champagne which Hilary kindly got for Charlotte's 30th Birthday. A great night was had by all, gossiping and catching up. Morning came round to soon and we had to get back to Glasgow Airport for the next part of our trip. England.
