Edit Blog Post
Hey all, how you going? (think I’ve been here too long, I’m talking like a local!) I’m back blogging, bet you all thought I’d left the country or something! Well I’m still here in Perth, but only for a couple of weeks before we head off into the outback with only the rucksacks on our back (and the tour group, van and guide). That’s our next adventure- an 18 day tour up to Darwin, stopping off at places like the Pinnacles, Monkey Mia, Ningaloo Reef, Marble Bar, the Kimberley range… just to mention a few . Cant wait for that, but for now we still have two weeks of room cleaning and toilet scrubbing, yes we managed to see it through, despite first thoughts of being absolutely exhausted and thinking we were the most unfit people in the world!!
I’ll fill you in on what we’ve been up to at work and at play . Firstly work, the trolley pushing and the making beds has got slightly easier along the way (partly thanks to the extra 3 minutes we got for check ins…amazing what you can do in 3 minutes). Also we downsized our shirts from a size 18
to a size……14, yep still rather large for us but certaintly less baggy than the size 18 ones! We got the hang of knocking three times and bellowing out ‘housekeeping’ at every door, due to a few incidents involving people not hearing us knock the first time…why do people not put the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door if they are still in bed!! One time there was just a huge mound in the middle of the bed (looked humanlike) and the curtains were closed so it was still dark (didn’t put the light on, I found people don’t tend to like the light being out on when they are still in bed…whoops!), but there was no movement when I called, so I left that room and didnt clean it. still not sure if there was human life in there or not still to this day Think Nats had more close shaves than me, she was thankful of the strategically placed door handle on one occasion as I recall, bless her. Occupational hazards though I guess!
Time for the play…well when we’ve been off, (which has only been one day a week and then when you get up
Ready for a night on the town
Look how straight the egg made my hair go :) at 6:30am every other day, this day off often does start with a long lie in ) we’ve done a few things, we’ve seen Fremantle..lovely place with lots of coffee shops and market stalls, could have spent a fortune .
Also just the other night we went up to Kings Park to see Perth by night, it was a whole different place, really pretty twinkling lights everywhere and the parks so huge you could easily just find a quiet corner to yourself and watch the starry sky .
We had a night out (finally) in Northbridge, the night was started with Jeigerbombs ( shot of jeigermeister and a can of redbull downed in one!) I think it tastes just as nice sipped slowly though! They had a live band where we were, playing lots of songs we knew and some we didn’t have a clue!! Nats miming was very convincing and she convinced me she knew all the words when in fact she was making them all up!! It was very similar to home really…apart from no Parmooos!! Shocking.lol!!
What else, well, we went to the swan river for tea a few nights ago, walked out on a sand bar,
Dont we look a picture
Sorry if i scared anyone :) weren’t sure whether we would get back because of the tide but luckily for us it was in our favour. We saw lots of black swans on the river (considering it’s the swan river I would have been disappointed if there wasn’t any!) we saw the lovely sun set and then weirdly saw the moon rise! I didn’t think that happened, but yep we saw it come up like the sun does all bright and lovely .
Oh yes and it was Nats birthday the other week, she is now 22 years young, we stayed in a posh modern hotel in Perth for the night, Nat wanted a pamper night so armed with $20 (about 8 pounds) I raided the $2 stores (hope she doesn’t read this!) to bring together a little pamper kit for us, I succeeded as I am one of the best bargain hunters in the world! I got us mud face masks and foot treatments and things and we had fajitas sat on the balcony (how romantic!!) and drank sparkly wine. The highlight (I think personally) was the home made hair mask I made us (honey, egg yolk and oil, leave on for 30mins) it did
Mmmm Fajitas
Nats birthday meal on our balcony leave our hair incredibly soft and silky, the only slight problem was the whiff of omelette you got when you straightened your hair afterwards…..and for the next few days!! I think the key to that hair mask is rinse well after application!!!
So our time here is nearly up…what awaits us is about a month of travelling then we are going to settle in Cairns for a few months to save up more money (it was going to be Melbourne, but with winter we decide to stay somewhere warmer 23’c the other day made us resort to jeans and socks!!)
So on the 21st of April we start our trip from Perth all the way to Darwin, then ready for this…down to Alice Springs taking in Kings Canyon and Ayres rock then down to Adelaide..across to Melbourne (maybe add in Tasmania, depending on the pennies..or cents I should say) then up to Cairns for a well deserved rest! Well about 4months working 6days a week again! I cant wait, my feet are ready to be off again .
We’ve started sorting through our bits and pieces to take with us and things we are giving to charity shops (about 5
The Moon Rising
Bit blurry but you get the picture
green tops in my case - why did I think I needed that many? !) and things we are sending home. (numerous shells collected along the way mostly!). It feels like we’re leaving home again, we have become quite settled, but we are here to travel, so I think that really should involve some movement occasionally .
Anyway, theres the long awaited blog, I promise my next one won’t take so long to appear, I’ve probably missed loads out but I can fill you in when I remember.
Hope everyones well and I’ll speak to you soon x x x
P.s a few photos will appear soon, just need to charge my camera batteries
