This is the very centre of Dunedin. There are definately Scottish vibes in the city.
We left Queenstown at 7.30am for Dunedin which is on the south east coast. It is the second largest city in the south behind Christchurch. Dunedin is Celtic for Edinburgh and it definately has a Scottish feel to it! It's also home to the first university in NZ.

Its a really nice place, it seems much bigger and busier than Christchurch. About 100,000 people live here and 40,000 of those are students. We both got good vibes from this place!

We got a taxi to our hostel as it was up quite a steep hill...but worse was yet to come! We stayed at a place called Chalet backpackers which is a lovely victorian place with really high ceilings and a hugh kitchen. The lonely planet guide said there are rumours that it is haunted so we decided to give it a go. Lisa named the ghost 'Graham' which was entertaining.

Dunedin is the home of Cadbury world so being huge lovers of chocolate we payed a visit in the afternoon and got loads of freebies! The smell was lovely! They have so many nice chocolate bars over here. Our favorite being Dairy Milk Black Forest which has

cherry flavoured jelly bits and biscuit chunks...heaven! We stocked up on it in the shop at the end.

Later we went to Baldwin street which is in the guiness book of records as the steepest street in the world. I thought the streets in Nottingham were bad but how wrong I was! We saw a few cars going up it so slowly they had practically stopped and people actually live on it! There are steps along the pavement so its a bit easier to climb. Every year the Kiwis have a anual 'Gutbuster' race where athletes run up and down it in about 2 minutes. not something i ever wish to attempt! I started to climb it and Lisa reluctantly followed. We both made it to the top and back and bought a certificate as a reward for the effort we out in.

After a hectic day we chilled at the hostel on the lookout for Graham but he didn't appear!

Greetings from the UK!
Hi Helen (and Lisa) Looking at the comment title, I'm surprised you haven't added the same title to yours! From Cambridge and Caterbury to Wales and now Scotland (and by the way there is a 'cadbury world' in the uk too!). Remind me again why you went half way round the world? Only joking, It sounds lovely....and surprisingly enough I have the exact same picture of 'that' punt on the river at the botanical gardens in Christchurch....! I tell you what, I was getting a little concerned when you mentioned no GHD's and enjoying 12mile hikes, I thought the 'bite' from the travel bug may have spread to you brain, but I was thankfully reassured by the moan about Wales and England!! Sounds like you guys are having an amazing time out there. I seriously hope that you have taken all necessary medication required to avoid the infection spreading...you know the one...from being bitten by the travel bug! One last thing, I hope that some of those choccies are gonna end up back in ol' blighty (you can't rave about them and not bring any back!) Hope that all is well and we are all waiting with anticipation to your next adventure 'blog' from down-under-and-to-the-side-a-bit Ben G (and of course the rest of us) say(s) 'HI' Cheerio Buzz
