hi everyone! (here are some pictures from the Te Papa Museum trip!!)

The Wellington International Film Fest is here! and I am enjoying it! The whole city is a buzz. The film fest parralells other fests like Sundance in CA and the Berlin fest and Cannes. It may not be as prestigious, but it definately does not fall short in what films it brings to NZ. The fest started last friday and it goes through until the end of july I believe. I got a ticket to the first film of the festival - last friday at 10 30 am. I have been studying my guide for the fest like its the best novel ever written-there are so many choices. I decided to see- Alejandro Amenbar's "The Sea Inside" http://www.theseainside.com/-winner of best foreign film in the academy awards. golden globes and Goya awards. This movie was absolutely incredible. not a flaw to be found in my eyes. I know it is coming to the states, and I highly suggest you to see it. The acting was amazing, and the story was so genuine. it is a heartwrenching true story of a spaniard- Ramon Sampendro, a quadropelgic, who faught the Spanish government to end his life. I know with the whole teri schiavo and million dollar baby thing that this might sound just too much- enough already, right? No, this film is superbly done, and it magnafies the importance of life and love and beauty. I can't stop thinking of the movie. Carynn and Alonso, I really think you need to go watch this- especailly since you've read the book love in the time of cholera.

Enough of the film- Nz is getting rainy- and a tad colder...july is supposedly the most wintery month. But- i forge ahead! This past weekend I went tramping at the Tararua forest park - and I will be posting more on that (including pictures) later. For now, I am wokring on my essay for literature and enjoying what NZ has to offer. Charles comes in 18 days. and I couldn't be MORE excited. I could use a sense of home. so im counting down the days till he gets here!

Well friends and family, thanks for the continuous comments on the blog. I cant figure out howto post a reply, so include your email so I can just email a reply back to you. I appreciate all teh support and good news! I hope home is treating you well, and i miss you guys, we'll talk soon, dont fogert to check back often, Im going to post some awesome photos within in the next couple of days.

all the best mates!-shelly

You say Te Papa, I say Te Mama
hey shelly its cool to see your pictures from Te Papa and then remember when, only a few weeks ago, we were viewing pictures of Te Papa on the internet and you were so excited to go. Hope it met your expectations, it looks awesome. "The Sea Inside" sounds interesting and can't wait for a chance to view it. I'm close to finishing Love In the Time of Cholera, I know you'll love it. It seems as though you're soaking up all that you can in NZea and that makes me happy. Mary boarded a plane headed for the other side of the country today, while you are in the future on the other side of the planet. I'm just hanging out in the middle, ha. Love you and miss you, Carynn
