Jason...
... Mos Def? Check out the bottle. avons improvisé.

We arrived in Nadi in a downpour and made our way to Travellers Beach Resort. This was a motel type affair, in Nadi Bay, by the ocean, but instead of white sand and turquoise blue water the beach and water were muddy brown. Not a place for floating lazily with a pina colada.
So off to Walu Beach resort on Malolo island. This all-inclusive was plush with welcome songs and drinks supplied by dudes
Our second Fijian beach...
... Still disappointing cos' the horizon was wonky. with flowery shirts and flowers in their hair who'd yelled "Bula!" which means life/welcome. The food included a huge breakfast buffet and lunch and dinner where you got to choose from a selection. The reef just off the beach had barracuda, untold little fish, eels and a shark, that we weren't expecting. We learned later that it was friendly shark. Evening entertainment was frog racing. Holy cow! What fun.
Ratukini hostel on Mana island by comparison was rougher and readier though again we were welcomed with "Bulas" and song. The electricity was intermittent and we had a choice of rice or rice with rice for lunch and dinner. A little less gourmet than the last place but we're not Jay-z and Paris are we? There was more to entertain in the evenings here though, with a traditional Polynesia dance show one night and 18-30 type games and limbo dancing the next.
After a few days on Mana, we moved again to the Beach House on the Coral Coast on the mainland (really just the biggest island), which was the location for the famous (Celebrity) Love Island. We played volleyball and then drinking games, not with hard liquor but
Our 3rd Fijian beach...
... That's one hell of a rain cloud. with traditional Fijian Kava, which is non-alcoholic (but slight narcotic) and made from the root of a plant of some sort. It was meant to relax us and ease us off to sleep but, while Nathalie was away with the fairies, I stared at the ceiling and only managed a revitalising two hour waking dream. The next day our Kava master, Juita, took us on a walk through the jungle to discover medicinal plants and on to a waterfall. As Nathalie's boots can't swim Juita did his St Christopher act and ferried her across most of the streams/rivers/torrents . At the end we climbed the waterfall, as you do, and were only slightly massacred by mosquitoes. We understand from Juita that the blue ones are babies and even though there were hundreds of them they weren't the ones that were biting us. Ah Fiji! A Pacific Paradise.
