Up until now my travel experiences have always been a few weeks or few days in one place. Sometimes I was in and out so fast I didnt really get a chance to have a good look. The experiences were always as a tourist and never anything more.

This changed with our move to Melbourne. Not only did it provide us a chance to live in a new city, it was still relatively close to home. Admittedly there was no real major culture shock, but at first I did have to watch out for those trams!

Well a new opportunity has arisen and I am about to take the longest holiday I have ever had. More than three years ago I recognised that to keep feeding my head with new ideas and to gain a wider perspective on issues of change, I needed to travel more widely. So after more than another year of planning I am now going off to North America (and maybe the UK) for 2 months.

The time sounds like a lot, but with the ground I have to cover, it really is not enough.

The trip will take me from:

Sydney to Los Angeles where I will go to:
- Santa Monica and defrost.
- San Diego Zoo

From here the plans are very open and I have two months to meet work colleagues and friends in cities on the west and east cost of North America. Half of my time will be to meet professionals in the energy industry who have had experiences in energy deregulation and the development of green markets. It will be interesting to see how similar and different our markets really are.

I will stop in
- San Francisco
- Philadelphia
- New York
- Boston
- Toronto
- (hopefully) London

After all this I will be back in Los Angeles for a trip back to Sydney on 20th September.

As I trip from city to city I will try and take in more than just the tourist places. I will write a little bit of my adventure on this page. So I hope you can log in from time to time. This page will replace the need from me to bombard you with lengthy emails and once I have worked out how I will also add photos to my page.

Please write to me or share your ideas by sending me any comments.

Melbourne
So, just writing to fill you in on my stay in Melbourne, Australia. It's been great so far! Got a bit of jet lag after my trip from the bedroom to the lounge room to watch TV, but recovered ok after a nap. THe food's not so great as it used to be (used to be stir fries and curries, now it's watery kidney bean/cabbage soup), but I'll adapt. Am missing a certain someone, but that certain someone will be glad to see the list of movies that he won't have to watch with me when he gets back, due to me taking the opportunity now to watch them without him: 1. Khal Nayak 2. The WOnderboys 3. Finding Neverland Love and miss you, Babe
