Vang Vieng is where tourist live the good life. The town is a tourist creation. The only street is lined with bright neon lights, shops lined with "beer lao" t-shirts, pancake vendors and western resturants. Where else in SE asia can you lay in a bed, at a resturant, order banana pancakes and watch endless reruns of Friends starting at a dawn and ending sometime in the dark. It was crazy.....these restuarants were a craze among the backpackers. There were filled early and stayed that way late. It was sometimes hard to find a bed.
If you are not catching up on how ross and rachel "were on a break" then you can partake in the other truly tourist attraction...tubing. Which translates to a inner tube, a slow river, top 40 music, and many beer lao's! Jaime, Eli and I opted for kayaking instead of tubing, because we heard those tubes move pretty slow, and after 1 too many, you wished you would have had a paddle.
So we paddled and trekked (hiked) throughout the countryside of Lao, eventhough at times it felt like daytona beach with the P diddy pumping on the stereo and the amount of Beer
Demoted from captian
I was in the back, but was demoted shortly after I ran us into a rock and flipped the kayak. Lao being consumed. This was quite a paradox, twenty something whites swingly drunk on ropes on one side of the river bank, while on the other locals washed their cloths, searched for seafood, or bathed their buffulo. It was a fun town, and we met some fun people, but what is wasn't was Lao, so we decided to move on.....
