Check out Nicholas' BEARD. I was a bit surprised to see him at the airport with one months worth of facial hair. Handsome as always, just a little harrier.
Berlin is fantastic. I am really enjoying this city. Before I came, I wasn't sure if I'd like it all that much. I had this gloomy, graffiti-filled image in my head, and I thought that the city might be a bit depressing. And the thing is, it is rainy and there is a lot of graffiti, but it's really a lovelly place to be.

Nicholas and I had the big apartment all to ourselves this past weekend because his host mom was out of town because of a party for her just-married daughter. It was great having free reign of this huge downtown appartment, and I've decided that at some point in my life (granted I have the funds) I will live in an appartment like this. I love the old, ornate ceilings, wood floors and big french doors; ah, I would have so much fun decorating a place like this.

But anyway...

We had a good weekend. On Saturday night we went to an indian restaurant and had an all-you-can-eat buffet and hookah. It was lovely. Sunday was a beautiful day so we just walked around outside and he showed me some landmarks before we sat in

a park and ate our lunch.

I love being on vacation! It's so nice to wake up in the morning and know that I really don't have much to do. I just get up, eat some bread and cheese, go back to bed for a bit, meet Nicholas at his school, go to lunch and then chill out until he's all finished. Not a bad way to spend a week.

Tonight we're going to see The Magic Flute. I've never been to an opera, so I'm interested to see how I'll like it. Friday we're going to a Rachmaninoff piano concerto, so I'll be making up for my lack of classical music in Besancon.

Ahh. It's so hard to get up, but it's time for me to get ready for the day. Until later...

It was a perfect day to sit on a bench and eat some Dunkin' Donuts. How very European of us.

Here's the courtyard of the building where Nicholas lives. His host-mom lives on the third floor with a balcony. I can't wait to show him my living quarters...he's gonna be so jealous (?)

Part of an old Nazi helicopter (I think). Nicholas lives in East Berlin so there is graffti everywhere. But amongst the graffiti are high-end shops and art galaries. It's a really effective contrast.
